I just moved my Sony XDR C705DAB Clock Radio downstairs as its been getting no use upstairs. I haven't actually used it for a couple of months but when I went to turn it on the DAB station names get recognised but the message 'tuning' appears on screen and I get no signal. The FM is working fine. Is it possible DAB is down or have Sony sold me some shoddy workmanship?

    Which stations?

Do note that the independent channels have gone since the trial ended on December 1st last, and you may have to do a new scan to get the RTÉ channels.

I'm guessing this has been discussed to death but ...
Is there any info on where RTE is at with national DAB radio service ?

    I've this link
    RTE link for DAB

    The trial (Dublin/Northeast) began on Jan 1st 2006 !

When is it likely that areas in the West of Ireland might be able to avail of DAB ?
    Are there coverage maps ?

Has DAB been a bit of a failure in UK so RTE are looking over the pond and
    thinking it's not a runner ?

Am I being cynical to think that this is just going to get indefinitely postponed
because of the financial pressures within the state broadcaster and the
    general economic conditions ?

RTÉ won't expand coverage out of the 4 transmitters that have it at present until the industry decide what they want to do.

See the notice on the front of www.digitalradio.ie

As far as i know rte have plans to roll out dab accross the southeast by the end of this year. Also three digital radio stations by Dusty Rhodes which left dab a couple of months ago will return in the summer. With the cutbacks in rte at the moment this could change.

The DAP stations that left only numbered 2 (All 80s and Mocha) but he has a third now (Radio RiRa) which was never on DAB...
