As someone who I know v.little about and you dont appear to have been in the well prior to this it's now your turn!

So! First marathon in March yes?
What made you want to run a marathon?
How long have you been running?
Has you always been geared toward longer distance?

Has anyone else ever told you you sound like Tommy Tiernan ?
Would you be looking at a top 5 finish for the ultra ?
Whats your best chat up line ?
How will you react if Sosa goes sub 3 before you :D ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,051 ✭✭✭MCOS

Good choice MarieC! We have a lunatic in the well, this should be a colourful one :D

Whats your best sandwich (the bread kind!)?
Which 2 celebrities would you like to sandwiched between?!
Do you have any good jokes to tell us?
Which boardsie would you like to trade shoes with for a day?
Whats next after the Ultra and sub 3 boxes are ticked?
    What inspires you?
How many press ups can you do in one go (ahem..proper ones!)?

Were you secretly hoping someone would put you in here. :)
Do you intend to take dump before Connemara start instead of during? :D
Do you ever sneak a look in the mirror and say "Lookin good Gav...."
Do you view Sosa as your protégé and have you created a monster so to speak :P

    hi marieC
mind yourself as your climbing out of the well.
and seeing as im injured at the minute i may as well jump in.....splash!!!

ive run 3 marathons in total, all of them last year(connemara, cork, dublin)
connemara in march will be my first ultra.

i started running really as a pastime to keep me out of the pub etc.
i liked it but found it very very difficult but gradually improved .
i was lucky that when i started running i ran with 2 guys who were much better then myself(one of them did ironman UK last year)this brought me on rapidly.
the guy who did the IM often said i should do a marathon one day .
me being me took that to mean run one as soon as possible so entered conn as soon as possible.

im really only running about 2 years seriously(i use that term loosely:D)
before that i had being running the annual city 10k but not really training for it and just happy to finish it , go to the pub and talk about it, taking a minute off my time with every pint .

i really enjoy the shorter stuff and have resonable PB's in most of them but found when i got into my stride on the longer runs i felt like i could run forever.
but in saying that i do miss really pushing myself in the 5mile/10k/10 mile/ races that are coming thick and fast at the moment.
and i cant combine the 2 so i reckon this will be my only attempt at a ultra for a while. so i can go back and protect my PB's from the greedy hands of Sosa

maybe tommy tiernan sounds like me and on some comedy boards someone is asking him"has anyone ever told you you sound like sungod?"

simple answer would be i just want to finish the ultra.
obviousily on the day i will do my best and try finish as high up as possible
but i dont intend killing myself to do this,

my best chat up line's would be
"do you know im in the top 5 on the 1000 mile challenge"
" yeah of course i know woddle, if you want to come back to my place im sure i have his number somwhere"

if Sosa goes sub 3 before me i will change my username to SLUMDOG:D
if anyone can he can, with a bit more self belief he is well capable of it.
Sosa looks like a runner and glides along and is only running 12 months
the only thing stopping him going sub 3 is weather is actually does enough marathons,.
very very hard to go sub 3 in your first but second or third is doable

Mr. Sunny G, We've been expecting you.

Please note, the following is a hypothetical scenario.

As a runner and a male, if you had to chose between losing a leg or your willy, which would you chose?

im a big fan of a local waterford delicasy...it involves 2 slices of bread between which you place 2 slices of luncheon or as we say in waterford "red lead" and the contents of a pack of tayto cheese & onion crisps.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

2 celebrities...... probably brad and angeline:D i was never confused:D:D

man walks into a pub with a peice of dog s*** in his hand and says to the barman "look what i almost stepped in"

i was sitting in my house the other day when a man knocked on my front door with a beard.
i dont know why he didnt use the knocker

id like to be trade shoes with hunnymonster just to see how she consistently does it and stays motivated.
im finding this ultra training very hard and motivation is slipping so just to have her mind set would be refreshing for a day.
she is someone i would have the utmost admiration for.

or i would swap shoes with krusty clown as ive always wanted to work in a circus:D

whats next after the ultra and sub 3.......REST and lots of it...i would love to go sub 60 for 10 miles

i was watching tv about a chap that is paralyzed from the neck down from playing rugby and he spoke so full of optimisim and life.
im not sure if i would have the same attitude but that does give me the kick i need to enjoy the fact im healthy and not get down about the little set backs in life,

how many press ups can i do.....ask Sosa how many he can do and add one more for my total:D

im going to cross train like no man has cross trained before:D
i have a few books im due to read including advanced marathoning so this will keep me busy

if you knew me you would not want to be like me .....honest
im not cut out to give advice as i dont get into the theroy of running and all the lactate/vo2/black socks knock .1 of a second a mile,
but i will say that consistency is the key, for me anyway .
if you train sensiblely and consistently ..you will improve

yes i intend on releiveing my self before the race....and i may be wearing "pull ups" as a precaution

ok you have me.... i love myself

i know Sosa a long time and knew that if he decided to take up running it would only be a matter of time before he matched then beat me in races.

the first 12-18 months would see the most improvement in someone starting to run after that i reckon it gets harder to improve significently and beat PB's eventually we all plateau .
but sosa would be more sensible then me and look after himself a lot more.
he has a better approach to training where as im a bit gung ho " im down to do 5 but its sunny out lets do 18" kind of attitude
so to answer your question have i created a monster? ...........yes

In terms of effort the hardest race you have ever completed ?

my first marathon in connemara 08 was the hardest in terms of effort.
i had been training really well, i was following the HH intermediate programme and running well in local races.
i had done a 10 miler in dungarvan in 62:02 in the build up and was very confident of a good marathon.
i didnt say it out loud but secretly i had hoped for sub 3(i know , how nieve could i be. but i was caught up in my fast improvement and thought i was invinceable).
i started the race and couldnnt understand why everyone was going so slow.
the leading pack of 6/7 runners were long gone but everyone else seemed to be crawling.
i stayed with a group of about 4 who seemed to me to be going at the correct pace(6:50 per mile) and everything was great for a while .
i felt strong and comfortable and remmeber thinking im going to do this easy.
we passed through half way at 1:26:?? which ment we were ahead of all the half marathoners.
thats when i started to tire , after 15 miles i knew sub 3 was only a dream and scolded myself for being so stupid.
i did the first half in 1:26 and the second in 1:43 which is well over a minute a mile slower.
the second half of the marathon was torture , i hurt everywhere.
i was amazed i could go from feeling so good to so bad so quickly.
i had visions of having to pull up but thankfully i battled on. i did stop on mile 25 for about 30 seconds .
even though i was just home i had to stop to elivate the pain for a few seconds sbefore i could continue.
i have never felt as bad during a race and hopefully i wont ever again.

I feel a film coming on - The Madness of the SUNGOD or something. We'd need Mel Gibson to direct it, lots of gorey close ups of bloody blisters and moody shots of his long lingering over the shoulder looks into the mirror...

    Anyway...

    - What's the furthest you've run in a single session / weekend / week?

    - What running challenge would you look at and think "nope, that's just silly"

    - You're coming down the finishing straight at the marathon, time is 2:55 and sub 3 is in your grasp as thousands yell appreciation. Sudden tummy cramps - you spot a portaloo. Do you dive in and miss the sub 3 or "do a Paula" and carry on running?

    - Who will play you in the film of your life?

the man that got that coat is very lucky indeed
even if it did make you look like a flasher.....long black coat and a pair of shorts under it:D

i will have to say my finishing position.. to finish 10th in my first marathon was fantastic.
my time of 3:09 would not get you anywhere near that position in a bigger marathon but hey thats just the way it is
even though ive run nearly 9 minutes faster since then i doubt i will ever finish as high again

god amadeus your not making this easy.
ehh ok i can keep going and get sub 3 but also have a "accident" or go to theloo and miss out on sub 3.
tough one . every race you do could be your last so i am tempted to say take the s*** and the glory and keep going.
but im also a realist and unlike paula i would not have a team of people waiting to wisk me away from the finish line to hose me down and dress me.
the thoughts of walking back through the streets to my hotel covered in....with dogs following me and people pointing would not be my cup of tea so i might go for the loo and miss out on the sub 3.

how about a compromise , dash into the loo..dont wipe, straight back out and make it in 2:59:59;)

Do you think you will stick at marathons now as you main race distance or will you have had enough of it after March 22nd?

If you'll stick at marathons would you just be happy at getting around the course or do you have a target time you think you can reach?

If answer is yes in first above after this Ultra in March do you think you will do another one again?
(I secretly think you have your eye on the Celtic 100K in 2010 ;))

    Favourite tipple?-
Eva Mendas or Eva La Rue?
    Coolest dude on earth?
    Favourite shxte food?
3 places you would love to visit before you die?

What is your out loud Connemara target (sorry if I've missed this elsewhere)
Who would be your dream running partners (an adaptation of the dream dinner party guests)?
If money, health, injuries etc were no issue, and I was to give you an entry into any event in the world, what would you pick?
Bag of chips or a pint?

You could have had my shoes for nowt this morning at 6am, although "HM and Zuppylurk" is a lot less "Brad and Angelena" than I imagine you would like for that sandwich of yours. I was seriously lacking in motivation this morning and had to repeat the, "only 2 more hard weeks to go", mantra the whole way down the stairs... Mind you still had 14 done and dusted before breakfast so feel more motivated now :-)

ANSWER........i will move back to marathons and shorter for the forseeable future

If you'll stick at marathons would you just be happy at getting around the course or do you have a target time you think you can reach?

ANSWER...........i have not trained to my potential for the marathon yet, and there as numerous ways i can improve eg: my diet is still not good enough , i could loose a few pounds, my speed work/tempo runs etc is no not up to sctratch.
so i can deffinitely get faster.
so im willing to work harder and more sensibly i dont just wany to improve by 4 seconds i want to smash 3 hours, so the answer is 2:54:59

If answer is yes in first above after this Ultra in March do you think you will do another one again?
