    Including dealing with negative numbers my 1e3 has a;

    while
    for
    if
    if
    else
    else
    if
    else

    Fun!

    P.S. Baza - I noticed that you have one of those radiohead sigg water bottles. Git! I didn't have enough on me to pick one up in Malahide last summer, got me a pretty cool poster instead.

    Did your program not change scale for larger numbers? (like if the max was 200 you'd go up in tens)
    I live there.

    It is a nice place.

    It was a lovely spot for a gig, couldn't really say if it was better than Marlay Park, the weather and stuff was a factor.

    mr. devine, you can still get the bottles on the w.a.s.t.e store - http://www.waste.uk.com/Store/waste-radiohead-dii-31-10035-water+bottle+new+tour+2008!.html

    jmcc- Windows7 has been blocked since they updated the NAC. I might try to get a mac usb ethernet then..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭devinejay

    Cheers for the link, I might pick one up.

    Also on a somewhat related note;
    People say that disposable bottles etc are the work of the devil

    Well according to this
    http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=990CE1DF1339F933A05755C0A960958260&sec=&spon=&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink

    it's not all bad. As cool as the sigg bottle is, a whole mess of energy went in to making it compared to the disposable bottle we love to hate. For some figures it says somewhere that you would have to use a normal ceramic mug 1000 times to see the benefit over using 1000 polystyrene cups, what with making it and washing it etc.

    I'm not trying to claim any of this gospel, but it's interesting all the same. Or maybe not.

    Humm.. You are now registered as a having a mac registered with that MAC address.

    Guess you are stuck with that shitty os so.. :P

    Their actions were also rather shortlived. I have internet on my phone again.

    I don't think you understand me. W7 works on the wifi, as I authentiticated this MAC using OS X for the wifi network, but W7 doesn't work on LAN and OS X doesn't recognise my LAN hardware. So I'm buying a 10/100 to USB off ebay (€4.44 inc shipping), registering OS X and then hoping that LAN works on W7 again. If it doesn't, I have no Skype.

    It does, but I hardly ever have time to talk on Skype when I'm on campus.

    Boston, I'll see your me-spotting and raise you an ApeXaviour. I think.

    no, making it work for negative numbers involved double the ammount of for loops and if statements so i didnt even wanna think about adding the scale thing. it was just for 'personal satisfaction' as she calls it so i didn't rly care.

    To scale-
    get range of values using
    range=fabs(max)+fabs(min)
    unit=range/40 //40 being max number of lines high your graph is
    then.. err, I couldn't really figure out which way to do it, but it was something like divide all your values by unit.

    Instead of using a for loop inside a for loop, use a for loop inside a while loop.

    y=max
    while(y>=min){
    print out the spaces and stars for that value y
    y=y-unit}

    It's basically a for loop, same idea - a loop that repeats itself according to three conditions, just the syntax has to be different because the for loop won't let you use variables (max, min, unit) in the conditions bit. (I think)

    Where did I mention any loops in my post? They shouldn't be necessary, although I see how yours works too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭devinejay

    Oh sorry, I was assuming that you were using a for loop in a for loop, which I was originally also. That was the way I ended up getting around the scale thing, if you divided all your numbers by units would the output look right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

    Uh, not sure. You multiply the line number by unit, and then check the slot value against that. I think.
    So.. within the for loop counting down the line numbers - if (array[h]>=(i*unit)) cout * else cout blank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭devinejay

    fry-see-what-you-did-there.jpg

    Yeah, and an if again to swap the * and blank for negatives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

    Yeah. I didn't actually get it to work, but I had forgotten that there were those two extra-cred exercises when I finished my program so I only had time to do the negative numbers when I was reminded.

    Just thought I'd ask, how are any other JFs doing with the autocad? I've yet to start mine and I should be devoting time to the maths test until tuesday, so it'll be a bit of a rush in the end.

    Study your maths.

    Far more important and relevant to you.

    yeah I'm in the exact same boat... people are worrying me saying they've it done and all, so I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one! I've it downloaded at home though so hopefully I'll be able to do it at home after maths.

    Well at the moment I'm doing neither, but I take your point, and I'm getting to it.

    Just out of interest, what's the general trend with the 60/40% or 100% for 1E1/2. Are the majority of people who take the 100% those who've done nothing all year and those who are really really good at maths? At the moment it looks like I won't be doing as well as I should if you count assignments and mid-year tests, but I've a feeling I'll have to put in a lot of work to make a marked improvement with the summer test.

    Wut?

    It was different for us last year.
