I said it earlier in the week, and I'll say it again now.
Rafa will not be the Liverpool manager next season.
Great. Now instead of repeating it ad nauseum on here, why don't you toddle on down to the bookies and put your mortgage on it?

You are that in the know and the bookies are never wrong afterall, right?

No, we don't. We play, generally, with two out of Berbatov, Rooney and Tevez up front. In midfield, we only have one midfielder that could be described as a holding player - Carrick, even then if Alonso is not considered a holding midfielder, then neither should Carrick be. When Scholes or Giggs are fit and selected they don't play as a holding midfielder. Fletcher could possible be descibed as one, but I wouldn't. Then we also, generally, play with two wingers and two attacking fullbacks.

would this not be a common united team
    >>>>>>>>>VDS>>>>>>>>

    Rafael Vidic Ferdinand Evra

    >>>Carrick Scholes>>>>>>

    Ronaldo>> Rooney>>> Park

    >>>>>Berbatov>>>>>>>>>

I have seen that more than once this season albeit with a few personnel changes

also united dont play an out and out defensive midfilder because they dont have a decent one, altho has tried to buy one on more than one occasion, i reckon fergie would give his right nut for mascherano, they used to play a lad similar to him in midfield you might remember him

Well you say they didn't play poorly last night, I say they played poorly.

How did you rate the performances of Riera, Torres and Kuyt. I'd say very poor for two of them and below average for Kuyt. Now if you have your three main attacking threats not doing it, its really not a complete performance. Clearly Liverpool did a great defensive job but it stopped there ergo a poor performance imo.

Liverpool comfortably beat real madrid, a team with 9 straight wins in la liga under their belt, at the bernabeu, and i dont remember reina having any great save to make.

Say what you like, thats a good performance

Maybe my post will get lost here if I don't spit blood, but MARK LAWRENSON NEVER SAID THAT HIS UNDERSTANDING WAS THAT BENITEZ HAD WALKED.

MARK LAWRENSON SAID THAT HE GOT A PHONE CALL ASKING 'HAVE YOU HEARD THAT BENITEZ WALKED?', MARK LAWRENSON SAID THAT HE HAD NOT HEARD THAT AND THAT HE GUESSED IT WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE RUMOURS THAT CAME FROM RUMOUR MONGERING..

So, just to say again in case anyone missed it, MARK LAWRENSON DID NOT SAY THAT HE RECKONED BENITEZ WAS ON HIS WAY OUT OF LIVERPOOL.

    Did everyone get that?

If you didn't, listen to this file, from about 20 minutes in.

My point was that Lawrenson was the first to mention it in the realms of the media. Lawrenson "innocently" mentioned in public that he had got a phone call asking him "Have You heard that benitez walked". Was he asked a specific question such as "there are rumours Rafa will be leaving. Have you heard that"? I imagine not, so he voluntarily caused a storm in a tea cup.

Nothing similar about Mascherano and Keane, Keane was a footballer.

I swear it wasn't me who rang him and asked him that. I don't even have his phone number.

I was hoping he'd announce it in the centre circle at full time last night, and then Gillete and Hicks would push out a wheelbarrow full to the brim of next season's transfer kitty, and hand him the keys to a completed 60k stadium ready for the next home game.

Would make things a whole lot easier then, only Rafa's beard to complain about.

    This how I assume it went;

Presenter: So Mark, what do you think of Rafa's supposed contract saga?

Mark: You know what I actually just got a phone call asking me if I heard Rafa was walking so read into that what you will.

    *cue media hysteria*

Mascherano is a different player in an Argentina shirt
People have given out that he plays too much football including maradona(pre getting managers job) in an Argentina shirt (too much short passing, not getting it forward quick enough, apparently)

Mascherano is playing to orders in a Liverpool shirt
For a lad of his ability, Gives it away a lot though!

I have to disagree...just because a teams performance is not of an attacking nature and hence creating chance after chance....that does NOT mean they played poorly. Liverpool clealry had a game plan, and an affective one at that, which was executed very well, so I would say they played quite well. I would like you to watch the game again and count the number of clear goal scoring opportunities Madrid had.

Yes Riera did not have a great game, which unfortunately has been a worrying trend of late IMO...great start to the season but in a bit of a rut at the moment. Torres got injured very early on so I think you are being a little unfair on him. As for Kuyt, no I am not a huge fan of him but he works well in these type of games and did a decent job last night. You failed to mention Yossi, Alonso and our defense in your analysis of our poor performance!!!!!!!!

Hopefully we will play better at Anfield!

Also, as for Des saying Lawro was spot on about Keane being sold?

First off he said he was aware of the information as Gerrard told him & Mr Gerrard & Mr Keane share an agent. Quite simply, they don't and Gerrard denied any such thing.

Secondly, the Keane deal was one that was struck very late with Spurs, and a deal that would not have happened had Liverpool not been presented with a chance to re-coup the vast majority of the monies paid out for him.

This chance arose due to an injury that happened to defoe AFTER Lawro's gossip.

Basically, Lawro said a player (that was quite clearly struggling at a massive club who is helmed by a manager who is ruthless when it comes to selling players) was going to be sold, it wasn't rocket science, he talks so much ****e some of it will stick now & then.

The Rafa talking thing has been rumoured in Liverpool, on the internet, and in a couple of rags for at least the last week. Nothing to do with Lawro.

Reading this thread is funny, anyone would think we hadn't just beaten Real Madrid in the Bernadeau and deserved to do so. ****ing unbelievable.

    No no no.

    The formation is more like

    .............VDS.......
    ......Rio
    ......................Vidic
    Raf
    .
    ...Carrick...Scholes.........Evra
    ...................................Park
    Ronaldo....Rooney...Berbatov

    ...

See I can put players in odd positions to suit some sort of argument too.

Also, while Keane did become more of a holding midfielder in his later years, for the majority of his career he was a box to box midfielder, not a holding one - not the sitting role Mascherano often occupies. He was a CM, and Scholes reverted to one as well, although more attack minded.

What really pi$$ed me of about Whealan (a guy I used to idolise as a kid), besides the obvious petty hate in his voice and his blatant lies - £200 million on 69 players, try £80 million on 50! - was the fact that he tried to make out that Rafa has lost the fans support.

A tiny minority of albeit loud voices want him out, while the vast, vast, majority know just how good he can/will be, and Ronnie tries to make out like the fans hate him!

I listened to that $hite before kickoff, and then sat back while ten minutes into the game, the tiny Liverpool section, surrounded by 65,000 rabid Real fans, in one of the loudest and most atmospheric stadiums in the world, and what do you hear?

A few thousand Redmen singing Rafas name.

The only turning being done by Liverpool fans is on the likes of you Ronnie.

    Listening to the panel on RTE kind of took the joy out of it for me. Always the same old bollix;

Bill: What did you think of that Liverpool victory Lads?

    Lads: Real were awful.

Never Liverpool were great. The opposition are always ****.

There's a Man Utd superthread somewhere if there is really that much interest in discussing formations used by SAF.

So in which thread would a comparison of the formations used by United and Liverpool belong in. Do we need to start new threads for everything now?

Eh? Has Rafa not spent a lot more than 80million? Keane, Torres and Mascherano would have cost around 50million - surely the rest of the squad was not bough for an average price of around 600k?

And don't go on about recouped fee's. My car cost my 20k. Just because I got money for my old car does not mean I spent any less on my new one.

You do realize you have just done what your giving out about him doing?:o

Using your own personal experience and blowing it up to mean vast vast majorities!:o

+Id say he and the guys he was on about talk to a lot more liverpool fans durng the course of a week than you do:o

this is just getting silly now,

so your car cost you 20k regardless of the fact you got 15 for your old one for example.

what did it cost you 20 or 5?

    think about it

No, they don't really, (and clearly my formation is 1-1-1-2-3-1-3) but just because YOU stuck the player names into a 4231 formation, doesn't make it true either.

I would say we play 442 (ronnie has been playing a more orthodox winger role this season with Berbatov in the team) or 433. Park/Nani/Anderson (players to have played on the left) have no been AML's as you imply, the have played left midfield.

He did spend close to 200 million, what he recouped is a ridiculous arguement, as I said yesterday he is a manager not a fupping account.

When you factor in wages, sign on fees, etc, he has wasted a shít load of money on players that were dross to begin with or not given enough of a chance.

Add in the instability of 100+ players moving through the club, it is safe to say he is a train wreck in the transfer market, the reason the board don't want to give him full control, going on track record he has been woeful, IMO.
