    No I am record as saying that he is excellent at recouping money.

    You continue to surprise me boggles :)

    I am not necessarily talking about you. I am talk about general opinions. An awful lot of focus is put on Josemi, Morientes, Nunez and so on.

    I was genuinely surprised to find out that there is only a total of 16 players that he has bought and sold on and hasn't actually wasted/lost money on them overall.

    I even thought that it would have been a larger list and that it would have been done at a significant enough loss.

    Your points are noted BUT his starting 11 has won NOTHING. The Champions League Final winning team of 2005 contained 2 players Rafa bought, it was basically Houillers team so it was hardly weaker than the current one. Winning the FA Cup the following year was hardly progress. The team of 2007 was more his team but he totally bottled it that night playing Gerrard it a role he wasn't used to.
    I'd love to know who the "host of talented youth players" are. The squad players you mention are generally dross and make little or no impact when brought on.

    bottled it in 2007? Give me a break. We were all over Milan in the first half until they got a deflected goal. Can't blame Rafa for our not putting away chances.

    That starting 11 has won nothing, but it was assembled relatively cheaply as i have shown (as our needs required us to do at the time) and is still not complete. In an ideal world Riera, Kuyt, Arbeloa and Aurelio will move into the squad player category, Insua will move up to the starting eleven, and three new players of quality will be brought in. Then our first eleven will be stronger and our squad will be much stronger. Then hopefully we'll win someting. In an ideal world . . .

    It was brilliant, different kettle of fish to do under the pressure of competing for the title thou I'm sure you'd admit.

    of course it is; he's just making the point that we can go on a run.

    let it go, stop stirring.

    It'll break my heart if Rafa goes, can't understand why some 'supporters' are all for him leaving. You support a club for the love of the club, not just for the good times. The achievements are just a bonus.

    Rijkaard was a joke at Barca and you think he is good enough to manage Liverpool.

    So you think Rafa is a joke to?

    To just clarify, I don't think Benitez is worse than him, but arguing against him being a joke at Barca. Which was bollocks unless you know nothing

    This is ****ing hilarious...

    Rijkard is better than Rafa despite having an identical record in top competitions and managing a club with a virtually unlimited budget and talent.

    O'Neill is better than Rafa despite having won nothing that can be compared to Rafa's record but because he has achieved relatively decent success at small clubs, could easily do a better job than Rafa...

    It is dumbfounding..

    It would be a really great idea if everyone took a deep breath and calmed down a tad.

    Not at all, but people saying he is fit to replace Rafa simply because of what he's won is ridiculous. I'll go out on a limb here, any distinctly average manager could have won what he did with that team(Ronaldinho)

    this is exactly the reason why you cannot have a discussion about anything in here

    find a quote where i said rijkaard is better than rafa?

    i didnt, because i dont think so. however, the question was that if rafa leaves, who could take over from him

    i mentioned some coaches who i believe would be able to do so.

    but as usual, anything that can be in anyway interpretted (sp) as negative towards rafa is jumped on.

    i assumed anyone with a bit of cop on could see what i was saying, but i seem to be mistaken

    you're right, it IS ****ing hilarious

    Best supporters in the world?My fcuking arse we are.

    Shocking the amount of Dunphys that "support" us these days.

    We have been **** for 19 years in the league,rafa comes along and in 5 years we win the champions league,contest another,win an fa cup and progress in the league.
    He brings in a great backline,a super keeper.
    Masch,Alosno and Gerrard are as good as anything and up front Torres is in many eyes arguably the worlds best striker.

    Since when does success come instantly?We have no right to win anything and we have started from a lower base than the teams we contest the league with.

    Certain supporters need to realise this is not the 70's,we arent the top dog in the league but i believe Rafa is the man to take us back there.

    It all started at the West Ham game,it was a **** 0-0 draw and there was boo's but we went top of the table that night.

    Who wants Jose or Klinsmann instead of Rafa.

    just my rant

    Mourinho will Not be coming.

    His wages alone are more then our entire transfer budget last summer. Even if we wanted him (which i dont) we cant afford him.

    Really??

    £20.3 on Keane
    £5 on Riera
    £3.5 on Cavalierri

    Your some spoofer

    O'Neill isn't better than Rafa.

    To date he has been a manager that has had teams punching above their weight

    Wycombe - in the lower leagues
    Leicester - in the lower reaches of the PL
    Celtic - in the CL
    Villa - in the higher reaches of the PL (if they get 4th)

    His next progressive step would seem to be to get a team looking unlikely to win the PL (Liverpool at this stage, or Arsenal) to actually win the PL, then challenge and win the CL.

    Consider the players in that squad. Now consider the players in the Valencia squad that won two La Liga's under Benitez; or the lolLiverpool squad that won the CL (Traore, Mellor, Biscan, Smicer, Le Tallec, Baros etc, etc).

    To claim that Riijkard would be an upgrade is laughable.

    Now, as for the other men you listed - two are otherwise engaged with some of the bigger jobs in world football. The other is a 60 year old coach of the Swiss national team (on their way to the 2010 WC probably) who walked away from the Bayern job at the end of last season and seemingly has had his fill of the grind of club management.

    So, eh, the list wasn't really one that had 'proper' alternative solutions listed.

    People, before you throw out names of potential replacements for Benitez please consider:

    - Their overall record and managerial experience;
    - Their current employment situation;
    - The level of interest they have previously demonstrated in working in the English game at a club where they are unlikely to receive full management control;

    Hint: the likes of Ferguson, Wenger, Lippi, Mourinho, Hiddink, etc, etc are not realistic candidates at this time...

    Did we not sell some players?

    Why are people talking about replacements for Rafa when he is still our manager? Have some respect.

    you can read my post above, i never claimed he was an upgrade, but someone who could replace him if he left

    i was only talking about people who would have the skill/ability to replace a manager like benitez IF he left

    Id consider Jose Mourinho to be a realistic candidate. There's been talk that he's unhappy in Italy for some time now

    its just preperation for what will inevitably come really. Barring the owners or at least one goes in the summer should that not happen then i think rafa will be gone. and its looking more like rafas head then a yankee one

    It's a discussion forum, people discuss the whatever they feel like.

    It's not a respect thing, as I hardly think poor little Rafa is sitting behind a keyboard in his office crying into the coffee reading Boards.ie.

    Rafa will not be fired, i'll eat my own cock if he is. He is still the manager of our club, deserves our respect and hopefully he gets it. I cant wait to be in Anfield next Tuesday to be part of the support he will inevitably get.

    We don't discuss what we like. If we did then i would have been banned 10 times over already today.

    There is no doubt in my mind that he positioning himself for the United job. I believe that he is only at Inter because he knows it will fill out his CV nicely.
