DOE and taxing a van

My father has just rang me looking for me to sort it out for him(on the internet) he's under the impression that I can do it in seconds but I have no idea, never even heard of DOE until a few minutes ago.

Its a citroen dispatch, I only know that and the reg number. Even if I had a rough guess at how much the tax will cost.

Also is there a way to check if it's gone through the DOE or even a website for it.

Is it a new van, or a van he's looking at buying?

Van should have a DOE certificate which is issued when it passes a DOE test. This is done on an annual basis.

Vehicle has to have a valid DOE certificate before it can be taxed, so you either have to go to the tax office or post the documents off.

    It's 06 and he's already bought it.

I don't think he can find a DOE certificate.

Ask the seller if there is a valid DOE certificate, otherwise get it booked in for a DOE as soon as possible.

It's seperate to the NCT - lots of different DOE test centres around the country.

This link http://transport.ie/upload/general/6333-0.pdf should open a 13 page pdf document with all the DOE centres around the country.

Think it's about €50 to put the van through the DOE.

Not sure about a website. You have to find a DOE centre near you and book the van in with them. These places can be busy so be prepared for a wait. The DOE costs around 70 euro.

On a side note, your Dad shopuld really have checked that the van had a DOE cert before buying it. He could have haggled about the price if the seller did'nt have one.

The Dept of Environment are responsible for the testing but they have no option on their website to check and see if there is a valid cert. I think your best bet would be to ring whatever motor tax office last taxed the vehicle as they take a record of all the documents produced, DOE cert, Nct, insurance etc. Also if your dad didn't get a cert from the seller and there is a valid one, he's going to have to apply for a replacement on a form RF134 which has to be signed at your local Garda Station.

We often get asked for a photocopy of the receipt in the cert book. You will need to know where it was tested first though

We then re-stamp it and the loacl tax office accepts that.
