^^^ Thats a shocking list, Peter Beardsley in the 40's although the excuse for leaving him so low is funny.

But Carragher in the top 10 is a joke.

And Roger Hunt ahead of Ian Rush seems wrong to me, I know how good Hunt was, but Rush was the most clinical striker after Alan Shearer that I have ever seen. I think he is getting that rating on a World Cup winners medal and not just all that he did for Liverpool.

For me the three famous no. 7's, Dalglish, Keegan and Beardsley are all top ten. Of Liverpool players that I've seen play my top ten would be:
    1. Kenny Dalglish
    2. Kevin Keegan
    3. Ian Rush
    4. Steven Gerard
    5. Graeme Souness
    6. Peter Beardsley
    7. John Barnes
    8. Alan Hansen
    9. Ronnie Whelan
    10. Robbie Fowler

Missing the legendary Alan Kennedy. Scored the winning goal in 2 Champions League finals. Only British player to do so.

I know that most of ye are listing your top ten from your living memory, but no Liverpool all time top ten can exist without Billy Liddell.

    Simple as that.

Even as a red of 25 years there is no way carragher is even in the top 10 centrebacks, let alone the top 10 overall.........id nearly go so far as to say he and torres should swap positions on that list.

Liddell has to be top 3 simple as.Everything i have read or seen about him is amazing.Even when Liverpool got relegated its widely regarded as a given that they would have dropped again were it not for him.
    534 appearnaces 238 goals.Liddellpool.

Not a bad list i reckon, and Tony Evans is a great writer.Anyone who hears him on the game podcast knows just how biased he is.

Quiz time ! Can anyone name the only two players to score 2 goals in a Champions league final.

Clue: Both have a relevance to Liverpool.

While I agree that he shouldn't be in the top 10, I think you're being a bit harsh saying he's not in the top 10 centre backs.
He certainly beats virtually every centre back I saw lining out for Liverpool during the 90's for a start! Neil Ruddock, Torben Piechnik, Bjorn Kvarme, Phil Babb etc. *shudder*

Aye, thats true. My question is only relevant to the Champions league. Think I made that clear when I put it in bold.

Ah come on now, i never said he was rubbish.............the names you have mentioned barely even deserve the tag 'football players'. You know who im talking about, i wont patronise anyone by making a list but i have done so before on another lfc forum just to get my point across.............its fair to say they are all from the late 60s through to the 80s.

    Crespo and Riedle

The answer is Riedle and Inzaghi. When did Crespo ever score two in a final ? I know he scored one but not two.

He scored 2 in Istanbul. Maldini opened the scoring and Crespo added another 2 before the break

I don't think Stephane Henchoz deserves a place on Liverpool's best defenders list or Centre halves for that matter. I liked the guy, he played for us before Liverpool. But you have left out so many stars. Now maybe before your time, but legends of Liverpool. Emlyn Hughes and Tommy Smith come to mind immediately.
There were others who did not spend as long at Liverpool but great defenders nontheless like Larry Lloyd and Glenn Hysen. Steve Nicol was a great centreback too although he spent a lot of time at full back due to Hansen and Lawrenson being there. I just know I'm forgetting players now that I shoudl mention but I'd say Carragher finds it tough to make their top ten centre halves.

Apologies brother. So then there were three and not two. Riedle, Inzaghi and Crespo. Amazing how the only 3 players to score two in the final all had a relevance of some sort to Liverpool.

I agree with you there m8..........we all know the virtues that carra posesses, however, there is talent and there is blind loyalty......if sami was scouse can you just imagine how he would be revered. The same can be applied to ray kennedy etc.........i would also include steve nicol who played everywhere except striker and left midfield. In the fullness of time, i believe agger has everything in the locker to be another gracefull ray kennedy.

I never said that you said he was rubbish. It's just that once you get through the usual names of Hansen, Lawrenson, Thompson, Smith and Yeats you're left with guys like Gary Gillespie who, good as he was, isn't in Carragher's class in my opinion. Then you're into the modern era where we skip quickly through the years until we get to Mark Wright who again I think Carragher is better than and Hyypia and Henchoz. I would rate Carragher above Henchoz but below Hyypia.
