Book Depository now charging Irish VAT?

The book depository has hiked up the prices significantly with its new makeover and is now charging the Irish VAT rate on top of it! I thought there was 0% VAT on books!

Anyone know why? They were my favourite place to buy books and now they are dearer!

Amazon add Irish VAT to books too.

I suppose TBD had no choice, as it's a requirement if you sell X amount value of products to Ireland.

Amazon add Irish VAT to the DVDs and that, but not the books, which is why I'm baffled.

I've bought books from Amazon before, and paid Irish VAT on them. Maybe it depends on the type of book, whether it's VAT free or not? I know there is VAT on some books at least.

Well, I've only bought fiction books from Amazon. I haven't got hit for anything extra though I have with DVDs and such.

Has anyone sent an email to TBD to ask?

The T&C's of their website state that Ireland has 0% VAT on books, I just bought a book there with no VAT added.

I put some books into trolley and checked out, but VAT was marked at £0.00

Must be just me then. I hit 'place order' and suddenly my order jumped in price by £4 with no warning. Have e-mailed but I haven't heard anything back yet.

    Delivery cost maybe?

Delivery is still free according to the site.

It will be a huge disappointment if they increase prices. I have never even considered looking elsewhere for books over the past few years.

Today I was looking for three books and have found each of them £3 cheaper on www.play.com than on bookdepository.com. Looks like the days of shopping around for books are back. :(

Got my order cancelled but no explanation as to why the price jumped in the first place.

Ordered a different book and no tax on it so maybe it's a glitch.

It's still a real pity that the overall prices have gone up though. They were my first stop for books for years.
