Anyone know of any good kids MA classes in Rathfarnham / Ballyboden / Marley park area, to suit a 9 year old girl keen to give it a bash. Something more focussed on fun / light sparring / grappling than a formalised / ritualised style, preferably with other girls as well as boys in the class. I'd also be keen to hear what age kids classes start at, as I also have a 5 year old girl who's quite keen but possibly a bit young.

Those guys are in TAllaght near the square so not too far away. You can see some stuff on their website and get in touch with Colm O'Reilly the coach(boards user too). They do grappling and wrestling classes with a little bit of striking sparring afaik. Definitely not a ritualized/formalized style.

    Hi,

There are two kids classes I can think of that are fairly close.
One is Terenure Taekwon-do class run by Jonathan Dargan, Mon & Thurs at 7pm - 8pm. He has a good few kids attending each week, mix of boys and girls. They seem to get a lot out of the classes and it is done in a fun manner, very relaxed atmosphere etc. I'd def recommend trying out one class anyway. His contact details should be under clubs in www.inta.ie, if not there, send me a pm and I'll give you his contact details.

Other club I can think of is www.spartanmma.com in Tallaght. Check out the website for times. Again is fun atmosphere - submission wrestling & mma. Lots info on the website anyway.

Best to try out a couple different places anyway to see which one clicks more with the kid, and also which suits you best in terms of driving to, days, time etc.

    Simon

We have a kids silat -self defence class in Firhouse on a Wednesday night 6.30pm. It has a mixture of boys and girls. We are opening a second night (Monday)in March. The kids learn a blend of silat, which is a combination of striking techniques and grappling, self defence techniques and awareness. The goal of the class is for the kids to gain confidence in themselves. Training is done in a fun, exciting way for the kids.

Thanks for all the feedback, I saw what I'm guessing was the spartan kids competing in UCD a while back and was well impressed with the attitude / sense of fun. I guess it will be a matter of trying a few of these options out.
