    The Boardroom is a shambles.

The club, the training, the tactics, the squad, the coaches, the facilities, the youth system are all INFINITELY BETTER.

Of course you knew this is what I meant, but keep nitpicking.

That's actually a myth I see alot of Liverpool supporters qouting, it simply isn't true. His first season in charge he finished lower than Houlier in his last season.

he'd lost Michael Owen, very nearly lost Gerrard, inherited Cisse and Baros as his only strikers and had a horrendous injury crisis during that season. Gerrard played up front against Bolton i think because we'd nobody else. Neil Mellor, Anthony Le Tallec and others had to be used so few were our resources. And obviously Rafa brought in big changes which the players took time to adapt to.
Still got to two finals that season . . .

I have always wondered why Houllier is not liked too much by a lot of Liverpool fans. I'm not too sure why, as I thought he did well. I think he got sick a few months after winning the 3 trophies in one season and was gone soon at end of season I think. (Not sure if he left / sacked same season as surgery).

Anyway, what are the reasons for a lot (going on pool fans I know) not liking him?

You still haven't answered the question as to why Pool SHOULD win the league.

He did great it was some liverpool fans and the media that saw him fail (his health didn't help of course)
he had got us to 2nd I think and won 5 cups before he succumbed to the idea that he had to play more attractive football as opposed to the winning football he had always championed.
que harry kewell, diouf etc. etc. attacking options that he was never comfortable with.

um, pool should win if they play well and deserve it. ya know, by getting more points then the other teams. if another team comes first in the league, they deserve it. kinda simple, but thats why we have these league tables.

    i think u are asking a non-question there

he'd lost Michael Owen, very nearly lost Gerrard,

Did he not decide to sell Owen?

Gerrard wasn't flogging himself to Chelsea until the season after.

to be air he's posting in relation to the guy who keeps saying anything other then 1st is not good enough for pool. Thats ridiculous considering the competition.

Benitez did not get on with Owen, Owen was willing to sign a contract but he wanted a fortune, instead of lose him on a Bosman Rafa decide to sell him for 8 million.

    No half truths Mr. Jazzy.

    Rafa sold Owen <fullstop>

Completely disagree. Owen wanted to leave. Had no choice to let him go or risk losing him on a free.

2004/05 saw Liverpool finish 5th its true but they were distracted by winning the Champions League. 37 points off winner (yikes)

2005/06 FA Cup winners and finished 3rd 82 points 9 points off winner

2006/07 CL finalists and finished 3rd 68 points 21 points off winner

2007/08 CL semi finalists and finished 4th 76 points 11 points off winner

2008/09 on a points per game average (currently 2.15), heading for 80 points

I see progress (and I'm not Rafas biggest fan)

    Exactly as Rebel said.

Obviously Pool are in a title race, if they end up with more points than Utd they will most likely win the league. I just don't understand why its thought Pool should be winning the league, considering Utd can just spend 30m on Berba, 18 on Anderson, 17 on Nani etc etc etc. Utd have such a head start that we only need to add to our squad top players whereas Benitez has much less money to spend and therefore has to look for cheaper and less quality players (obviously some of his buys have been good Masch/Torres/Squirtle/Agger/Reina etc)

Jazzy are you not happy with how the season is going so far? is a challenge not good enough?

you're actually now making things up. A new low. Owen had long desired to move abroad, and Real were interested. He saw this as his only chance to fulfill his ambitions.
As for them not getting on, Rafa was barely there a couple of weeks when Owen left. Where are you getting this from?

Plus that summer was the first of two successive summers where Gerrard nearly went to Chelsea.

Houllier is not liked by the same people who want Rafa out if we don't pull an upset of gargantuan proportions and win the league this year.

Houllier took over a collection of nice, entertaining players and thought them how to grind out cup competitions. For most of the nineties, Liverpool had failed to stand up and be counted in the big games (the two cup final wins were achieved against lower division opposition don't forget). Houllier was tasked with reversing a lot of underachievment, building mental toughness and instilling a belief that the club could win silverware again. Given what had come before under Souness and Evans, the 2000 - 2001 season was nothing short of remarkable. Then the next year, we were within minutes of a CL semi - final; within a few games of winning the PL. And while his methods were beginning to tail off in 2002 - 2003 (probably in some way due to health problems) he still delivered a League Cup final victory over Man Utd.

People have short memories. Yeah, so we didn't win the league under him; we didn't play nice football; and we were going backwards in a few respects when he was let go in 2004. But he gave us a two year period that dragged us back to relevance on the European stage again and he delivered us fans with a number of memorable days. We forget that we had forgotten what it was like to go into a tough European tie and get the required result before he took over (remember UEFA Cup defeats against Brondby and Celta Vigo anyone?).

Without his tenure, we would not have had players in the 2004 - 2005 squad who had the experience of winning two legged ties they weren't supposed to. And that experience had to have been a huge help for Benitez in the CL run in of that year.

Those who forget those things have very short memories.

oh, im completely delighted that we are challenging for the league. it may not be as ferocious a challenge as chelski have put in the last 2 seasons but it shows we are on the right track.
the amount of utd fans kicking up a stink and the volume of their postings is testament to that

nope, the first half of the saga was the year Rafa came in. The second half of the saga was after Rafa's first year in charge when it very nearly happened.

You're in a particularly mischievous mood this evening boggles!

Got to pull you on both of those frankly made up points Boggles old boy.

No he did not decide to sell Owen.
Owen decided to leave, and seeing as he only had one year left on his contract, Liverpool only managed to get £8,000,000 and Nunez for him.

Carraghers biography goes into the whole affair in great detail.
    Outlining the whole proccess.
Including the phone call that Owen made to Carragher asking him for his oppinion because he really wanted to go.

    Real expressed interest.
    Rafa asked him to stay.
Owen said he wanted to go.
    Rafa sold him.

    There you go.

Now as for the Gerrard bit.
How short is that memory old chap.
There were two years in a row of intense speculation over Gerrards future.
The transfer came closest in 2005, but in the summer of 2004, Gerrard was very close to leaving.
Infact he decided in the end to give Rafa one year to prove himself.

So, while normally I just leave your little foibles be, I had to say something here.

Based on the fact that Rafa Benitez has had 5 years

    I'll bite.

Alex Fergusson, the man now going for his 11th premiership title, the man who's won some 25 or so trophies.
The man whos team are champions of England, Europe, and the World..........

........didn't win any silverwear in his first 6 years at Man Utd.

Fergie in his first 6 years = 0 trophies
Rafa in his first 4 years = 4 trophies

Bill Shankly, the greatest manager in the history of our club, didn't win the title until his 5th season.
(Yes he won the old second division and brought us up from the bottom of the second, and I'm in no way saying Rafa has done anything near as much as him, as Shanks is and always will be the true managerial legend of LFC.;))

    So in summary.

Bill Shankly(The greatest manager ever in all but a tiny amount of Liverpool supporters eyes)
    First 4 seasons

    English 2nd division.

Alex Fergusson(The greatest manager in modern day football, if not ever)
    First 4 seasons

    Nothing

Rafael Benitez(The guy you think needs to go)
    First 4 seasons

    Charity Shield
    European Supercup
    FA Cup
    Champions League

But no, I'm sure you're right.
Facts and common sense may disagree with you, but don't let that stop you.
