Both are pure rubbish. Shame on Marshall for going down the budget road. Gold diggers. Don't be fooled by extra effects on some of these amps.

Might get a second hand Marshall DSL 40w all valve amp second hand for around €500 if you look around.

Well unfortunately i am not made of money like you two, i need a decent amp for jammin' and giggin' and anything that is better than the 15 watt that i have at the moment. So for me the marshall is the best option.

That is not the best option. There are other options than the MG range. Even the Marshall AVT amp would be a bit better.

Line 6 amps would sound much better for the same money.

What's your budget and sound you're looking for?

They may sound better but the marshall is more reliable

On a budget, I'd suggest a Line6 Spider or some kind of Roland Cube.

The Marshall MGs and various "valvestate" amps are basically designed to appeal to beginners who are attracted to the Marshall name. They have no redeeming features at all tbh.

    Neither are good.

That is not at all true in my experience. I've had to engineer more than a few cheap Marshalls, unfortunately.

Check out Adverts.is with your budget.

Why do you want a 100 Watt amp ? Or a 250 Watt amp ?
What sort of tone are you after?
I don't know why the 100watt would be cheaper, where are you buying/looking from ?

Neither are good for what ? If rgjmce is just playing in his bedroom and he's not a tone snob then it'll do just fine :)

The Marshall MG range are no good, they sound pretty bad.

If you've 200 to spend, look at the modellers - the Line6 range, Vox, Roland Cubes, etc. They're all pretty similar, and for the money they'll give good, useable tones for practice/bedroom noodling. A Marshall MG will just sound like a bee in a can.

Marshalls break down too. But for €200, you won't get much by way of a gigging amp.

Still think Line 6 is the best option. Even a Line 6 POD XT Live straight into the mixing desk would be a great idea, providing you have a monitor.

Those Mg series amps really are as bad as everyone says. They sound awful. Too many people buy them because they are familiar with the marshall name.
On your budget I would go for a Peavey Bandit 112. I got one used and I use it as my practice amp and have gigged it in the past. It sounds really decent and has a simple no gimmick layout, with a nice range of tones.

Well it's nice that everyone gave me their opinion but here is the way it is, i have only found marshalls and plus i think it's down to taste, i like the sound of the marshall, i am gonna have a look at one soon but i will check and see if i can find other makes too if i can

That would be understandable if you were looking at higher range valve amps, but the MG series has zero character.

Anywhere that you can find marshalls, you'll find Line6s and Rolands. If you dont want it for the tone, then think of the resale value. MGs have pretty much the worst resale value on the market.

Right, i have taken it upon myself to search adverts.ie for you, now seriously, listen, i know you like marshall, i like marshall too, they make great amps, but they make sh!te amps too, dog rough stuff.
Any thing with MG on it from marshall is going to be terrible.
You may think you like the amps, but get out there and start trying other amps, and you will realize that the MG series is rubish.

    Option one,
    Fender Roc Pro 700: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=75115&cat=16

    Line6 Spider: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=93890&cat=16

    Vox Concert 501: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=92793&cat=16

All of these are a MUCH better option than the MG series.
Seriously, don't get the mg, please.

really apreciate this, i'll check them out

The vox and fender aren't really what i am looking for but might go and see the line 6

The Line 6 Spider is better amp than any Marshall MG.
That one on adverts.ie is only €150.

Neither of those amps are good for anything. Awful awful amps which will just turn him off playing. It's nothing to do with being a tone snob, they're just rubbish amps. Nothing like a real Marshall in terms of sound.

If i had a marshall MG i wouldn't play through the amp, and i've been playing years.

Both are absolute crap to be honest, stay well away from them. Also, dont go near the Marshall MG series. Those amps basically use the Marshall brand to attract any potential buyers but the quality is the pits.

On the budget you mentioned, its gonna be VERY hard to get a decent amp. You MIGHT get a Laney 40 watt valve if you stretched your budget a liitle bit higher. A 40 watt valve amp is more powerful than a 40 watt transistor or valvestate amp so dont get too bogged down with comparisons with wattage.

Marshall AVT series, not too bad considering the price, but you could probably get a combo second hand for €300 to €350.

A mate of mine has a Roland Cube 60 watt amp, think he paid around €300 (new) and its a decent amp for that money.

Hey I think i have finally seen the light cause last night i was playing out of a laney 50W (i think) and it sounded way better than the marshall. I am gonna check out a bunch of amps before i decide though, including a few MGs, just cause of the price

    :) Great stuff.
I don't think anyone here was having a go at you or anything it's just that the MGs are sh*te and you pay extra for the Marshall badge. You need to spending more serious money to get a "real" Marshall.
If you're on a budget you could buy a similarily sh*te AN Other amp for a lot cheaper or spend the same money on something better. The lads have given some good examples of better quality, similar price amps already.
