Just looked at the prices for this machine- masive difference- Currys .co.uk are selling in shops at STG330 approx- on the other hand, Argos ROI is selling it at 449.49 Eur....v.hard to support shop retailers at those prices...

    @Kin Mak:

Sorry, another question. I'm just wondering if you know anything about that cute blue coloured version. I've put a notify me up on the pink version, but if the blue is coming at roughly the same time, I may be tempted towards it instead.

Best range of netbooks in one place that i've seen to date is actually in PC world Naas- (liffey valley didn't have as many this week) loads of examples of asus, a number of Acers (one especially good and cheaper than the NC10) , the new HP and a number of others...and of course- Black, white and blue versions of the NC10- if you've seen the blue Acer, then the colour is quite similar- personally, would prefer the black but would say that within the next 6 months, I reckon funky colours will be the norm for netbooks (just a prediction but if the HP pink is anything to go by, it's seems to be the way things are going- i.e. netbooks as functional fashion items)

Have only had it two days but already feel as though I'm wearing it away (and thats just web-browsing)- NC 10 still brilliant though....and for probably the 1st time, I'm what marketing people call an early adopter....great feeling having a toy that everyone wants

"....v.hard to support shop retailers at those prices..."

Ive bought a few items including my NC10 recently and the likes of Currys/PC World/Harvey Norman etc are positively bullish/stand offish / ignorant when asked for a discount .I would normally consider myself a fair -good haggler but there is NOTHING to be got off the price of many items for months -they are only offering discount on old rubbish or even returns/seconds often missing important parts eg cables.
It would break your heart to return to the likes of these after a holiday in the UK -prices are a joke.

I'm having a major issue with my NC10. Today during a conversation with Eircom support I used it to change my routers wifi channel and since then it refuses to connect to the Internet. Every other device in my house is connecting fine or has seen an improvement but the nc10 is telling me that "wireless connection is extremely limited". The wireless connection has also become "wireless connection 2" for some reason.

As an experiment I booted the NC10 into an opensuse liveusb and that connected to my wifi network no problem so it would seem to be a software problem on the windows side of things.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to fix this? At the moment I'm faced with the ironic situation of possibly having to install linux to get a wireless connection on my netbook!

I recently borrowed my friends NC10 to try it out in the same network I've a netgear WPN824 router and had the same issues even though every other device on the network worked fine. Some websites worked okay but others just refused to connect. Never got the chance to fix it.

Might have something to do with the piece of crap Atheros wireless card in it. I've had no probs since I put an Intel 5300 card in it (its wireless N and was only 20 quid on ebay). A few people were discussing it earlier in this thread.

I connected my NC-10 to a Samsung Series 6 telly using a VGA cable and I am VERY impressed with the picture. It is pixel perfect, no shimmering whatsoever. I had tried to do this with another laptop over HDMI and was less than pleased with the results. So, for anyone considering using this laptop as a media centre it works a treat. I know it depends on the telly and whether there is one-to-one pixel mapping, but for watching the BBC iPlayer (I am on UTV Internet, so it is not blocked) or movies it gives a great picture. I also just upgraded the hard disk to 500GB and the ram to 2GB, which helps.

I'm seriously thinking of picking this up, Is pixmania the cheapest place to get this at the moment? €331 + P&P

If buying online I'd rather order from sendit.com or thehut.com than struggle with
Pixmania's horrid customer service should anything go wrong.
Coming in at around €347 inc delivery there today with exchange rates.

Best option is Elara also at €347 today. I dealt with them last year picking up
a Vaio and can recommend. (Elara's pricing varies depending on what colour you want).

Decided to order one from elara with 2GB ram gonna be running windows 7 on it to try it out, planning on doing bit of travelling so I think this will come in handy. My biggest concern is do you get used to the smaller screen?

Via would be very interested to know that their Nano processor is being attributed to Intel....... :) Nice price though- its a lot less than the pre-Christmas reviews were suggesting......

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the NC-20 in black from Dabs.ie for €441.99 + €12.66 delivery. Total comes to €454.65. I see that some sites are quoting €499 and €529, so I suspect the price will increase as happened earlier with the NC-10. I bought the NC-10 from Elara for €369 and it was worth every penny! My main gripe was that the screen resolution was a little 'tight', especially for the vertical resolution of 600 pixels. The 1280x800 of the NC-20 would be ideal. Also, for touch-typing, the placement of the right shift key on the NC-10 was too far to the right. The keyboard on the NC-20 looks perfect. Now I have to wait for a month in anticipation!

Just got an email from Dabs to say the black NC-20 will be available on Feb 19, the white one in 5-7 days!
Kin, will Elara be getting it soon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 436 ✭✭Kila

Checked elara today, and the realtime check date has changed again. It used to say Feb 6th, but now it says Feb 13th. :(

Asked this morning, they said 3 weeks roughly but I think no one in the is very certain. Kind of like when the NC10s first came.

Works ok here. Skype calls are quite fine, when talking from a "normal" distance.

The one things thats put me off the NC-20 is the super glossy finish everywhere,on the black one,Also the Via processor will limit options of running mac on it,which i find really quick on my NC-10 with 2gb inside

Netbooknews.de have a good set of photos comparing the NC10 and NC20 side by side (and also with the Dell Mini 12) here:

    http://www.netbooknews.de/1729/fotoserie-samsung-nc20-vs-nc10-vs-dell-inspiron-mini-12/

    http://www.netbooknews.de/1729/fotoserie-samsung-nc20-vs-nc10-vs-dell-inspiron-mini-12/2/

The NC20 certainly is bigger, and I would hesitate to call it a netbook. If the performance of the Via Nano and Chipset lives up to the hype then I see the NC20 as a very nice 'small' laptop, and it would certainly put the squeeze on the much higher priced ultraportables. Dell seems to have discontinued the Mini-12, apparently the Z530 Atom was to blame. It just couldn't run Vista well, though I see on their US site it is still being offered with XP. Dell are now focusing on the just-released Mini10.

Dabs.ie still have it on pre-order, delivery due in 5-7 days, but the price has gone up from €441 to €470.90 . I am glad I ordered it earlier :)
