Giving the current state of the global recession,is there any country were you would be better off?. Switzerland?
How about Cuba( nice weather & cheap drinks also good healthcare system for all)are they affected by the global banking problems? ,given their ideology.

The whole world is affected by this. A country's citizens will get jobs before immigrants, unless you're in some kind of always in demand proffession.

If you are not in the car industry then it's not too bad where I am at the moment! Lots of companies still hiring.

This is a worldwide recession, although ours is going to the worst in the western world. We are going to reap what Fianna Fail have sown for many many years to come.

There are still opportunities abroad but you are going to have to work hard and there won't be family or friends to rely on at the start. If you are prepared to slog and chance your arm you'll get on anywhere.

If you want to live somewhere cheap for the year try Vietnam or Thailand.

my ex was from Hamburg, works in finance, and had to move to Dublin to get a job a few years ago! She's in Frankfurt now though, where the banks be at.

You can get your visa renewed easily enough in both. Think its a one month tourist visa initially. Of course you could try and get work teaching english.

Doesn't seem that bad over here, sounds to me like Ireland is one of the worst hit countries by this recession. The house of cards it was built on came tumbling down in some fashion.

There'll be more Irish people applying for the jobs down here than for the ones at home though. It's like New York in the 1800s down here, boatloads of Paddys coming.

It's easier said than done, emigrating right now may not be the best. With the recession regardless of your skills you would always be considered a foreigner and so it would be difficult to obtain a work visa.

As someone said, the recession is worldwide, but Ireland is worst hit than pretty much anywhere than isn't Iceland.

Either way, I plan to finish my degree, do a Masters abroad, and then see where a job takes me.

Apart from the main economic attractions/climactic appeal of countries such as Oz or Norway, I'd be seriously considering capitalising on a niche market like say an Effigy Bazaar in the Middle East - I mean, there's always a demand for stuffed look-a-likes in that part of the world - They don't even have to resemble the person in question..once they burn and once they're cheap - how could one possibly fail?

Welcome to the 1980's kids...recession hasn't even begun to hit yet!

Wait for another year or two then you will really wonder why/how you spent so much money on expensive trainers and clothes you didn't need, crisps that tasted like poo, DVD's that you didn't even want, cans of red bull, €5 tracksuits that you paid €90 for cause it had a badge on it, 10min bus journeys, phone credit to ring that pizza place that was five minutes walk away...so on and so on.

Just wait till your Mums learn that dreaded word, "handmedowns"....yes your older brother/sister did wear these clothes before you:)

Kids who are between 10 and 20 are not going to know what the hell has hit them. Before the 1980s we had nothing anyway so a recession in a pretty poor society just means you have slightly less nothing than you used to have. Today however...we were the haves and soon we will be the have nots. That can be more difficult on our fat fingered generation.

You could emigrate or you could stay where you are from, relax and try to get this country back up on its feet again. Go outdoors more often in the sun/rain. Talk to random strangers. Take up a hobby. Recessions are brilliant for art and music. Humans need a recession every now and then, it helps keep us from getting too fat and stodgy. Most important though is to smile everyday to yourself and say, "It's only money":)

The price of a basic PC the 80ies was a £800+ in the early 80ies which was almost two months wages, laptops were even more expensive, now you can get a much more powerful one one for just $7. :P
