I'm interested in your opinion on this.

Our house has a hip roof we want to rennovate it and change this to a gable roof. How do you think the planners will look at this.
    thank you

Are there any other houses nearby and if so, what type of roofs have they?

Gable ends are normally considered to be more traditional so cant see you having any great difficulties unless (as mentioned by smashey) there are other hipped roof houses immediately beside yours.

Is your house a Bungalow / Cottage or a two storey?
Do you intend to use the attic for accommodation?
Do you intend to raise the ridge height?

    I don't see a problem with a gable to a refurbished Cottage / Bungalow.

A two storey would be more difficult IMO.

    Thanks for the quick replies

The house is single storey and there are no other hip rooves around.

We want to change to a gable roof so we can have some useable attic space it woould be a small room. Architect thinks we'll have to raise the wall height very slightly.

This project is supposed to be a rennovation of the cottage and an extension (bout the same floor area again) and I just wanted to know if we have to raise the wall height will the planners still consider it a rennovation?

We didn't discuss it in great detail but how do we raise the wall height?
    thanks again

not at that stage yet. Its just a drawing at this stage. It will probably involve rebuilding all the walls all depends on what planners will ok
