I'm having a major issue with my NC10. Today during a conversation with Eircom support I used it to change my routers wifi channel and since then it refuses to connect to the Internet. Every other device in my house is connecting fine or has seen an improvement but the nc10 is telling me that "wireless connection is extremely limited". The wireless connection has also become "wireless connection 2" for some reason.

As an experiment I booted the NC10 into an opensuse liveusb and that connected to my wifi network no problem so it would seem to be a software problem on the windows side of things.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to fix this? At the moment I'm faced with the ironic situation of possibly having to install linux to get a wireless connection on my netbook!

Try right-clicking on the wireless connection icon that is down in the system notification area of the desktop - ie systray - and from the pop up menu, select "repair"

    Okay, much respect to elara.ie

I ordered the NC10 White on Sunday night and it got delivered this morning.
    How can you beat that?

For delivery time, I don't think you can beat 48 hours. Dabs would have beaten the price though (by a whole €3!) - and still deliver in 48 hours.

Anyone know what I would need to connect my NC10 to my Plasma at home?

I know the NC10 has a VGA output but would a VGA to SCART cable do the job?

Check your panel- its very possible it has a straight VGA in port......

In which case- use a VGA to composite splitter and add audio for the audio out socket to feed Composite in with audio (cables are very easy to find, and quality is good).

    This should do the job:

    About €2 delivered

EDIT: Actually.. not near my NC10.. does it have S-Video? Not that I think about it.. it probably doesn't - just VGA, right?!

Ok, having read through most of this thread, I'm now pretty convinced that this is the netbook for me. I'm primed, and ready to buy.

Or at least, I was, until I went to elara and dabs and discovered a listing for a pink model (not yet available). Now I'm sure this will bring desperate slagging from all directions, but I'm completely torn. Buy now and have it by the end of the week, or wait a week or two and get a pink one? I currently own a 17" laptop which I do most of my graphic stuff on, and it's pink too. I had kinda settled on blue or white before I knew there might be a pink one available.

Does anyone know when the pink one will be available on elara? (Kin Mak maybe?) I'm really very torn now...

If you plan to sell it on after a bit pink will be to a more specific market imo

Oh no, more decision making. That light blue is really nice looking! Any idea when that will be out? I can just about imagine waiting a week or two to order the pink one (because I've now gotten excited about buying one), I don't wanna wait months for the blue one.

I know that the pink will make it more difficult to sell on, but I don't tend to worry about resale when I'm buying. I want the laptop to be the one I want, and I actually think that now that I've seen those colours, I wouldn't be as happy with the other ones. The black is a fingerprint magnet, I think the current blue (navy really) is nicer than the black but still a bit school-uniform-ish, and the white looks ok. The pale blue and the pink look better to me.

I'll decide in the next day or two whether or not I'll buy a standard colour or whether I'll wait on a pink (of now pale blue) model.

The pink and light blue linked above look like they have a glossy top (like the black) so they'd be a fingerprint magnet as well I'd imagine.

Tried that. Nothing I tried worked. In the end I had to restore from a system restore point created before the recent wireless driver update. No idea what caused the bug but it was a biggie.

You willing to remove the card from device manager and then hope windows pick it up again?

I'm pretty damn happy with my NC10, even use it on the bus the odd time. The royal blue reminds me of the old hp jornada. :pac:

True, but black would show the dirt more (I think). Plus I could probably deal with fingerprint magnet if it was compensated for by being a really cute colour!

I was going to make a witty comment- but seeing as my little sister is drooling over the pink one, I think I see your point......

Out of curiosity- whats the 17" laptop you have already? What do you expect to use this for, versus the 17" machine? My wife has just moved from a much larger Dell over to the NC10, and while she loves it- there are more than a few things she isn't too happy with (but as netbooks go- the NC10 is as well designed as is possible, given the form factor).

I can see the benefit of having a decent 17" laptop and a 10" NC10,
I have a XPSM1730 and NC10 and I see them as different tool for different jobs.
Owning both means you have the best of both worlds, a powerful
desktop replacement for using around the house and a compact netbook
    for travelling and mobile usage.

And yes my black NC10 is a fingerprint magnet!

I've got a bit of a thing for pink, I really quite like it. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but I've always figured that I'm not buying a laptop that everyone will be happy with, I'm buying one that I'll be happy with. (And I'm not making as blind a girly decision as you might think. I'm an educated girl, with a BSc, a good job, and a technical mind. I just like pink! :D )

I've got a 17" Dell Inspiron (in pink!). I currently use it for a multitude of things including graphic and web design, watching movies and tv online, some light gaming, etc.

The reason I'm considering a smaller model is that I travel a lot. I've already got 5 weekends abroad booked for this year, and that number will likely increase, not to mention the trips in Ireland. I often take my laptop with me, but on these trips, it's mostly used for checking mail, occasional typing or reading, looking at photos taken that day, and other similarly light tasks.

I absolutely love my dell, but there's no denying that it's a pretty big toy. Particularly considering how Ryanair (and soon others, I expect) are cracking down on hand luggage, it strikes me that, for the tasks I've listed above, I'm maybe carrying something that's too big and too heavy. If I get a smaller laptop that can just be put in a sleeve and then into a bigger bag, I feel it would be much better suited for travelling.

I've done a fair bit of reading, and I reckon that the Samsung will fit my needs pretty perfectly. It's powerful enough to run graphics programs (based on reports earlier in this thread, and elsewhere online) if I get stuck having to do something while I'm travelling, but it's small and light enough that it can be packed into a sleeve in a normal backpack, rather than needing a dedicated laptop bag (precluding any other luggage).

For gaming these things aren't as bad as I thought they would be. I installed portal on my 4211 and was able to play most of the game on low with a decent framerate. Some parts were like a powerpoint slideshow though. :( I'm gonna start installing some older games on it (unreal tournament, call of duty etc.) and see what they are like. If it handles games well enough then for graphics programs it should be fine. For everything else it'll zip along nicely.

Anywho, hope you enjoy your new netbook when you do decide to buy it. :)

Shouldn't need to run anything that intensive. Probably just Illustrator, possibly photoshop...

I've installed CAD '08 on my 4211. And it "works", as far as it loads the program fine, and things seem to work as they should...but the screen space is way to small for any real work. Most is taken up by toolbars, i know i could reorganise things, but ultimately it's too small to be of use. That being said, i have it "running" flawlessly, well you know, as flawlessly as expected, haven't done much on it yet, but it's definitely stable.

Have loaded Dreamweaver cs4 and adobe flash software and it 'appears' to work- great machine- purchased an external DVD drive as well in order to load up various bits of software like the above- only thing I'd recommend to buy is a remote mouse- not sure the left click button will last the pace, but would recommend the NC 10- have a black one but I think 'colours' will become huge in the coming months-
