I'm keeping an eye on this guy, its looking like it could be the nastiest infection since sasser came knocking. Estimated that there is 9 million infected PC's worldwide at present. Virus name is Conflicker or Downadup.

I recently got rid of Norton anti virus and installed AVG free version.... just concerned now with this virus getting out of control

will AVG do its job in detecting any threats.... Is anyone else using it???

    I'm using Avast myself.
Apparently the new virus disables antivirus software, and also disables Windows Update- so I'm not sure quite how reliable it is.

Do you have a firewall- or do you rely solely on antivirus software. I use a retail Cisco router with a defined dmz and port access limited to a predefined list of programmes.

You really need to ensure you have a firewall along with your antivirus software.........

    Sounds grand.
AVG have an online scan- run it the odd time, see if it picks up anything- but it shouldn't.

If that's the virus I think it is, it exploits a hole that was patched by Microsoft way back in October, and it's only unpatched machines that can be infected.

If you've been using Windows update, you should be fine enough.

    Update, Firewall, Antivirus, maybe antispyware.

No need to be paranoid about it and cover your PC in Tinfoil.

For those worried that they're infected, Symantec offer a removal tool.
