Cisco Security CCSP

Hi all

Has anyone gone through the CCNA Security exam? What is the difference between it and a "normal" CCNA exam?

As part of a night course I went through over the last two years we were given CCNA training through the Cisco Net Academy website. The downside to it was that we were trained on the old CCNA and not the newer one.

I am looking to study this again and gain my CCNA, however at work they have hined that I should aim (over the next 6 months or so) towards some of the Cisco Security certifications i.e. the CCSP certs wich require the CCNA Security as their basis.

Anyone taken the CCNA Security?

Havn't taken the CCNA Security yet, plan on doing it at the end of the year.

That is exactly the info I needed, must have been blind looking at the Cisco site.

Basically you need to gain a CCNA first and then there is a top-up exam.

The CCNA specialist exams are relatively new and not well known by HR dept.s so I wouldn't expect it to do a lot in the near term for CV punch but the knowledge is always a plus. If you wanted something to help you move into a junior security role it might help a little. The CCSP is a much better long term choice for both knowledge and career building, if you don't work with the devices in a security role regularly already though it might be quite tough.

I guess he was thinking instead of just pasting up all the info he could just direct him to the right place, plus he said it was what he was looking for.

Whats the difference between CCNA (Security) and Cisco CCSP

My understanding is: CCNA-> CCNA Security-> CCSP

You build on CCNA with the CCNA security and then the CCSP takes that CCNA security up another level.

Thats if security is the road you want to go down, other then voice or wireless etc

That is pretty much it. After the CCNA Security you need, from what I can understand in this link, 4 more exams to gain your CCSP
