Would you take extra change from Dunnes if the opportunity arose?

Was in Dunnes today, bought something for €12, gave €50, she went off to get change and I saw the reciept had been printed saying I gave €100, she went to pay me out the change from €100...

    Do you:

    a) Count your lucky blessings, or
    b) Say 'I actually only gave ya €50.

I'd say it to the person giving me the change. It's their till that'll be out, they'll be held responsible.

    (b) No Brainer

People strugginlg to keep their jobs all over the country --- Superquinn 200+ jobs to go -- This person would be out the door in a shot -- You'd have no luck for it.

Nah the guilt would kill me. I'd be thinking about that person getting in trouble cause their till was down.

If i got an extra tenner in my change and didnt notice till i got home i wouldnt go back but change of 100 is too much.

Exactly i don't know how strict Dunnes are but i worked in Lidl and each time you were over by 10 you got a warning (imagine what would happen if it was 50 euro) - three warnings and you were supposed to get sacked which isn't good when you consider you could be serving hundreds a day 5 days a week - of course the manager has leeway but either way its not nice when it happens - and if I knew someone who walked off with money coz of my mistake I'd punch them in the face.

Give it back, right away. I used to work in Dunnes and have seen folk fired for far less.

There's two types of people in this world.

People who take incorrect change, and shout at shop assistants whose jobs mean they can't fight back, etc.

And then there's people who have worked in the service industry.

Its too much I would give it back. If it was only a small amount I probably wouldnt bother.

Nope, has happened to me a couple of times in different shops. Always told the person giving me the change.

If you can read this, you're too close!

lol, it srossed my mind but being a gambler and a card player I said karma would come back and bite me in the ass big time so I didnt take it.

It was never actually in my hand, she was only counting it out infront of me when I said it.

But then I went over to buy some bananas (forgot them yesterday!) and they came to €1.23, I gave him €2, and he gave me €1.23 change. I said shag it.

I'd say, "sorry, you've given me more change than you should have". It's what I would like people to do to me in the same position.

I would tell her / him.
I have been in queue's behind some very difficult customers and I really don't know how Dunne's till operators don't jump the flipping counter and smack them one.
Some people seem to think , that those workers are there just to take abuse and it annoys me so much.
So , to think that they might encounter a couple of these shoppers , and have their till short at the end of the day , would be enough to make me tell them straight away, quietly though.
They can get into trouble if someone in authority hears you saying it.

    I think it was joke.

I heard AlmightyCusion built a Braille Dunnes Stores singlehandedly in Ethiopia so little brown kids didn't have to worry about geting their sight back.

It was just a joke, I wouldn't actually do it. Also, I used to work in Tesco and no-one there was ever fired or accused of theft for a till being out. Other stores might be stricter though. If they were going to accuse someone of theft, I'd say they'd need a hell of a lot more evidence than a till being incorrect at the end of a shift.

it depends what the girls attitude was while she served me - i've come across a few cows in my time that have the souriest face on them with the worst attitude while serving you in the world - if this was the case id say thanks very much and laugh to myself

now if the sales assistant was nice and pleasent i'd be handing it straight back-

i suppose different strokes for different blokes

How was it a joke? Stealing from people or companies is not funny. It can cost people jobs, some stores are stricter and 100 euros missing at the end of a shift is not small change.

The statement was a joke. No one mentioned anything about actually stealing.
