    Can I repartion without
    reformatting?
Presume the NC10 is the same as all other drives so yes, you can make live changes to partitions without needing formatting. There's a nice, free partition manager tool here you could have a look at: http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

    Price will always come first

Price is a factor for sure, but not the defining factor for me. Different strokes for different folks;)

Edit: and btw it cost me 374.22 not 386.37

I think it's normal, I get the same 'click' sound from the hard drive every few moments actually.

They ship with UTi - you can ring them and they can track by surname and address (but they might require a 702 number if they can't track it.. might be able to get this from TheHut but I didn't need it).

    Unfortunately not.

Did you ring the UTi - Dublin Head office: Phone: +353 (1) 808 1516 or the UK?

Still no sign of package yet  I'm just impatient really...

Same story with me... found the UTi call center is desperate for dealing with queries. Rang them twice and never got any info from there.. then got an e-mail address of someone who helped me greatly.

Let me PM you on that e-mail address.

Run the "Initial Bluetooth Configuration Wizard" - check the programs listed
in your start menu or control panel.

    Which OS are you running?

I made a concious effort to listen out for harddrive noises this evening and there is what I would describe as a metallic popping noise every now and then. It's been there the whole time, but I guess I've got so used to it that I have to make an effort to hear it. Normal I guess...

Yeah, I have the same metallic clicking sound quite regularly. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Still loving my NC10, it's the business.

Whats it like to watch a movie on this little baby (with earphones to get around the sound problems).

It is the perfect size as i hope to b travelling alot this year.

Anyone know what the smallest external harddrive is with the biggest memory?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,568 ✭✭✭thewools

Starting to grow a disliking to "TheHuts" customer service - 3/4 phone calls later still no definite answer regarding who is delivering my netbook? Tracking Number? etc

But they are "looking into it" (since yesterday) and "we will ring you back" - mmmmm sure!!!:mad:

Be interesting to have a separate thread perhaps detailing people's experiences of games on NetBooks. I'd be curious what can run well (not just in terms of performance but the practicalities of gameplay too) and what can't.

Some suggestions I had in mind were the open source Civilisation and Settlers which being turn based, low-fi sorts of games, could work well (and being free are certainly value for money :) )?

Depends- do you want one you're willing to plug in to an electrical socket, or are you happy with one which is USB powered by the NC10 itself. You can get plug-in ones up to 2 Terrabytes in size- but the hostpowered ones probably max out around 320Gb (the bigger the more expensive- and you'll never use a full 320Gb anyhow?) If you do want lots of stuff- keep an eye out on iBood and some other sites they feature regularly as daily offers- its where I got my Trekstore drives (never heard of the manufacturer before I bought them- but they do exactly what they're advertised to do.......)

    Banned for abuse.
    yay, i'm back. :)

served my time and back on the streets causing havoc again.

anyways, back to our little sammy baby.

did a quick scan through the rest of the thread, but I can't be ar$ed to multi-quote so it'll just be quickfire replies if that's okay. :)

re: hdd 'plinking' noise every couple of minutes: this is just the drive spinning down and going into sleep mode. when it does this the arm that the read/write head is attached to moves to the edge of the drive out of the way. you may be able to set the spin down time or disable it in the bios (i haven't actually looked) but it's fine the way it is and won't be causing you any problems. afaik some disks make a little more noise when they do it than others, but i don't think it's anything to worry about.

re: laptop sleeves: i got the 10" neoprene one in PC World and it's a very snug fit and there's no room for the charger or anything like that, but it's what I wanted, just enough to hold the nc10 snugly (it's skin tight) and keep it safe. it's for the g/f anyway and she'll have it inside a big handbag any time se's taking it anywhere in any case so the charger can just go in her bag separately. you may have other needs.

re: 2gb ram upgrade: i've not done it yet, but it's performing okay in any case with just 1gb. one thing i will say though is that a 2gb sdcard used for readyboost actually slowed it down in vista so give that a miss if you were thinking about it. ;)

re: Windows 7: before you think about installing W7, have a read of this: http://i.gizmodo.com/5130902/giz-explains-the-windows-7-beta-fine-print I'm still contemplating insalling it on the nc10 anyway, but i don['t fancy another re-install in 6 months time.

might go back to tinyxp and take it from there. i'm contemplating using nlite etc. on tinyxp and customising it with just the nc10 drivers etc. and se ehow that goes, but it's something that would take me a while and i don't know if i can be ar$ed tbh. :)

Meh.. I've it installed. Install it on a second partition - if it stops working in 6 months, big whoop - use the other partition with your working OS (XP etc).

    Case closed.
