MVHR - can it be installed 'DIY' fashion. Is commissioning difficult?

    Hello

    I have finished building a large extension to a small house.
    The build was well sealed and so I need to install mechanical ventilation. The plan is to install a unit with heat recovery. I have already taken into account routes for ducts.
    I am considering buying the material and installing it myself. While the ducts would seem to be straight forward and connecting up the unit itself is straight forward I am not sure about the commissioning.
    I have heard that for these systems to work efficiently they need to be well balanced between air being pumped in and sucked out.
    Is this something that is important at design stage or is it to do with commissioning the unit?

    I would appreciate any information anybody has on this.

    We had a system installed and when it was commmissioned the contractors placed airflow sensors over each of the vents in turn, did a few "sums" and then varied the airflow restrictors to balance the system.

    Installation should be fairly straight forward, but best leave the commissioning to those that know or "suck it and see"!

    Is it possible to get hold of cheap-ish airflow sensor to check and tweak a system once it has been installed? Does anyone know where I can get one?
