Somebody told me that its all jumpers, shirts and slacks and not suits. I'm being told its officially smart business attire. Does that mean full suit and ties all the time?
    Thanks.

The thread name is a little confusing. If you mean civilians working in garda stations then then first part is right, jumpers etc. In my station I have never seen the civilians were suits

In my place they wear trousers and shirts or jumpers. They dont wear suits and ties but they dont wear jeans and runners either.
