    Hello all.

I'm cancelling sky and want to cobble together the best free alternative. Currently I've got a sky+ box and multi room and the equipment is mine to keep. Can you help me on a couple of questions.
    * Once I cancel my subscription, which channels will I be left with (from other posts I see that won't be able to get RTE 1, RTE 2, TV3 & TG4)?
    * I'm considering getting a UHFoutdoor aerial. I see one on EBAY http://stores.ebay.ie/The-Electrical-Man-Cannock_TV-Aerials-Loft-Roof_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ10328879QQftidZ2QQtZkm
Will this aerial work in Ireland
    * Will I be able to still use the sky+ box to record

Plug out your Sky box, take out the card then plug it back in and you'll see exactly what stations you will get, mostly UK channels and not a bad selection but kinda poor if you're used to the full Sky package.
If you live within range of a transmitter currently broadcasting DTT then you'll be able to get the Irish stations in full digital glory but you WILL need a STB capable of receiving it and a decent aerial

Depends what you're asking, do you mean will it receive Freeview from the UK or Irish stations?

No, it will only work as a standard Sky box

    Hi gtg60.

    Thanks for the info.

I had a quick look at DTT and it looks interesting. I live in Trim, Co Meath so should be within range for the transmissions. What would I need to do to get this set up?

Regarding the UHF outdoor aerial, I was thinking of picking up the irish stations. Apart from EBAY, where can I pick up a UHF aerial?

    All the best

DTT doesn't officially launch until Autumn this year so it may be worth your while hanging around for a bit as equipment will only get better/ cheaper in the meantime, there's much more info in the Terrestial forum.

You could probably pick up an aerial in an electrical shop near you, although those prices on eBay are very competitive!

Homebase have a nice 52-element high gain wideband ariel for about €30. Includes plate and clamps for wall mounting, and about 10 meters of labelled 5C-2V cable, which I understand is minimum RG-6 satellite cable, so should be adequate for terrestrial TV, and long enough for most installations.
