Anyone running Windows 7 in Boot Camp?

I know, I know... but my job kinda requires me to look into new Windows releases so I figured I'd sign up for the beta and take it for a spin...

I wanted to test out the media capabilities as well so I decided to install via Boot Camp, rather than Fusion. Installation was smooth and most things got installed properly right out of the box... The problem is the unibody Macbook's Nvidia 9400 GFX card - which gets installed as a Standard VGA... I can't run Boot Camp's setup.exe in Windows 7 and I can't install drivers manually from the Nvidia drivers folder on my Leopard recovery DVD (Device Manager finds no matches). I also tried Nvidia's driver package and it craps out, stating that there's no compatible hardware...

    Any ideas?

Did you try running setup.exe in compatibility mode? (Right-click/properties)
My sound & wireless drivers only got installed when I ran the windows update

Not sure, I was installing a few things yesterday and used Vista compatibility on some installers but I think I may not have used it on the Boot Camp installer so that's one thing to try...

The annoying is that I can remove the standard VGA drivers but I don't see a way to prevent it from auto-installing on restart (which is possible in XP - not sure about Vista, as I hardly ever used it...). Windows Update will not work with the standard VGA driver installed, as it comes up as the best match...

    Which thread?

This thread. Isn't it funny that when Windows pops up as a topic on the mac forum, it's all about getting hardware to work, trying to find drivers, running things in compatibility mode and so on?

Whereas all the Mac OS X threads that pop up here are about how beautifully everything works?

But yeah, Windows always has (and always will be it seems) kind of annoying... I've come across some threads today with others installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp and what ends up working seems random: my wireless worked straight off but for others it doesn't, others have the GFX card working right off the bat, etc - gotta love MS consistency :).

I stuck it on my Mac Mini, and it's quite zippy. Sound or iSight weren't working though, and I didn't have the heart to mess around with it.

Got it working after all - for some reason, it decided setup.exe from my Leopard DVD was now ok and ran it without enabling compatibillity mode ... After that, pretty much everything is installed and the 9400M is detected and allowing Aero/effects - sound works too and the iSight seems installed properly though not tested yet. Eject is not working at all for me... short cut keys do work... only devices now not detected are "Coprocessor" and "SM Bus Controller"....

Tis a beta test version....no chance of everything working properly...

I know it's a beta - but it's surprisingly stable (compared to Vista betas I used) and just because something doesn't work right off the bat, it doesn't mean it won't work at all, it just may need some effort.

As has been pointed out, I don't think it's fair to judge a product on how well a beta version runs. And while I haven't run it myself, all the reviews so far indicate that if Microsoft keeps this up it's going to be a fantastic product. A lot of it seemed to be playing catch up to Apple as usual (although I like the looks of the live window previews in the taskbar). But here's the thing: this will be available preinstalled on every bog standard PC out there, at a low price point. Windows is what most people are used to, and if it suddenly runs very well, and is far cheaper than a Mac, well... Apple needs to get its thinking cap on IMO.

As great as the Mac is I miss being able to play games on a computer. eg Galactic Civilizations II. I might buy this version of Windows when it's released. Anyone played games on the beta via Bootcamp?
