Weird virus, help needed!

    Hi,

I am hoping someone might be able to help me with this weird virus I somehow picked up...

The virus redirects any Internet searches... and blocks access to any antivirus site I try to access. It also does not allow me to update my AVG antivirus...

I saw on another site that someone recommended trying malwarebytes ant-malware. I downloaded it onto another computer (as it's blocked by this one now)... but when I try to run it, nothing happens... The same for another programme they recommended - SUPERAntiSpyware...

I have tried a system restore to an earlier point, but when I try to click on "next" - again nothing happens... so I am not able to do a system restore...

I have tried logging in to XP in Safe Mode... but it doesn't make any difference... I still can't do a system restore...

I am hoping someone might have come across this before and might be able to recommend a simple solution!

    Thanks!!

    Howdy,

Have just spent the best part of 3 days trying to fix this BUT did in the end. You probably have a rootkit virus which is why you cant update AVG and are getting IE redirects. Download a program called COMBOFIX and run that.

If it doesnt run you may need to download onto a USB on another computer , rename it to something else and then run it from your key.

Just follow the onscreen instructions as if opens a DOS windows with lots of warnings but it does work. The reboot and you should be able to update AVG and SPYBOT.
