I dont think this one is a patch on COD 4. I'm playing online on a 360.
Some of the maps are way too big although I like Asylum and Hanger as you can get stuck into a good firefight - no sniping for me!
The dogs are just stupid - at least in COD 4 you could get indoors to hide from the helicopter which is realistic but I've oftern been jumped by several dogs at a time - shoot / stab the first 2 and a 3rd always jumps you from behind!
My biggest gripe though is with the weapons available. I think the weapons available at the lower leves are either underpowered or inaccurate which leaves you at a disadvantage when you come up against a group of players at the higher levels. In COD 4 you could pick the M16 right off the bat - its an excellent gun which was used by players at all levels so at least starting off you had a chance. In World at War when you start not only are you trying to learn the maps but you are outgunned into the bargain! You have to get to level 37 before you can get what I would consider a decent weapon - cant recall what its called. Its the assault rifle that the Germans came out with at the end of the war - accurate and fully automatic.
    Roll on Modern Warfare II

This is one of the worst games I have ever played online. The sheer amount of bugs that Tryarch have managed to put into a working engine is insane. If you don't believe me Google "Call of duty" and any of the following keywords

    "No or bad challenge"
    "Server authentication failure"

    or even

    "Online problems".

I can safely say for the rest of my life, no matter what the game I will never ever buy off of that developer again.

I've been playing daily since Christmas Day on the PC, haven't had a single problem at all with anything. Haven't seen a single bug.

I'm not saying the game doesn't have bugs but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. You can google any game in the world + 'Problems' and you'll get hundreds of threads/posts, no game is perfect. I've had my fair share of problems with games but no title in the Call of Duty series is one of them.

I still maintain that World as War has a cracking MP and for WW2 fans, is easily the best COD yet. I will admit the pacific levels are a bit boring and bland but the Eastern Front levels are awesome.

The STG44. I use it all the time as well. My one gripe actually is that the weapon model has the user holding the gun by the magazine - something not advised in real life and it might cause the weapon to jam. But that's just me nit-picking. :D

I think that I'm p*ssed off that I got the game for Christmas but can't play it till I get my X-Box back!!!

    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I'll give proper thoughts in a couple of weeks!

Have many people come up agaisnt someone with a flamethrower in multiplayer?

Holy Sh*t!! They are pretty slow and have a short range obviously but if they catch you in a building then its lights out. Was playing Headquarters lastnight and if this guy turned up then he can fill a room with flame in seconds. From the kill cam you can see that he is surrounded by flames too but seems immune which is a little unfair!

I killed him a few times and ran up to his body to see if I could pick it up for some BBQ fun of my own but no luck. I think its more of a perk than a weapon so once the player dies it dies with them :(

What servers are you playing on , I have only found 2 so far that I thought worthy enough to go in favourites .

I've been playing daily since Christmas Day on the PC, haven't had a single problem at all with anything. Haven't seen a single bug.

There are no major bugs in the engine of COD4, besides what they put into it. That's was pisses me off the most. They took a functioning multiplayer game and actually broke the only part of it they changed.

A blog I was reading while researching fix's pointed out on the day of release 190,000 google hits for one specific error message coupled with COD WAR. The other was close to 120,000. That's amazing for a engine that was working perfectly on release for the previous game.

COD5 uses a combination of ports. They are ports for single connections only, should you choose to have more then one person playing on the one router you will have to completely disable any NAT firewall active which in this day and age is sheer lunacy. Having to open ports in the first place for a FPS is stupid, and this is the first I have seen it required outside of the need for hosting games.

Running the game in 64bit Vista has for some people with a combination of external factors lead to connection problems as well. The fix for this is actually a cracked .exe. To play the game, people need to download the crack?

I'm not saying the game doesn't have bugs but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. You can google any game in the world + 'Problems' and you'll get hundreds of threads/posts, no game is perfect. I've had my fair share of problems with games but no title in the Call of Duty series is one of them.

I liked the game after I got it working. Never going back to it though. Put yourself in my position. I paid full price for a re-skinned game, which cost 5 hours to actually get working and I do this for a living. What about all the people who bought it and just gave up. What will happen when you buy their next one and its you that gets ass raped? Will you change your mind about a Developer who can't even do something as simple as re-skin a game without massive problems.

The older I get the more I look at how much something costs and what level of service was provided. Well the level of service here was so bad that I will vote with my feet. I hope others do the same.

I still maintain that World as War has a cracking MP and for WW2 fans, is easily the best COD yet. I will admit the pacific levels are a bit boring and bland but the Eastern Front levels are awesome.

For the people who can play it.

You can hit 65 in about 10 minutes on the PC with the fast xp servers.

I share your opinions wholeheartedly Cuddlesworth! I will NEVER buy another game developed by Treyarch! Excellent post! ;)

Just wondering if anybody can help out here. I'm quite a loyal CoD fan and own pretty much all the games on either the PC or 360. This Christmas I had bought WaW like many other people for the PC, but I've never experienced the sheer amount of bugs relating to the multiplayer aspect of any CoD game so far.

I have looked through the official forums but I thougth I might get a better perspective of one of the problems I'm having.

Firstly whenever I load up the game I very rarely ever connect onto the WaW online server.
Frustratingly there's no reconnect option (unless it's in console?), so the only way round this is to quit and restart the game until it does connect. I have almost spent at least 15 mins trying to do so before giving up!

If I do get it to connect online successfully I can encounter another problem, which has been mentioned elsewhere. Whenever I try to join a server I get the "Server Athenticity Error", and I can't connect onto anything. So once again I have to restart the game, as well as hoping to get it to connect too the WaW server all over again.

I've read somewhere that refreshing the server lists in the menu causes the error when connecting onto any server, but I often get it the first time loading the game up. I only gathered some information about it, it seems a connection problem?, but doesn't explain why it's totally random.

As anyone else had such problems, and if so have they found a way to solve this re-occuring error?

Guy I work with is a massive CoD fan and he thought CoD: WaW was absolutely terrible!

Said he played it for an hour, and put back in CoD4.

Reminds me I've had CoD4 for about 8 months now and played for 10 minutes in all the time I've had it. Must give it a game later.

    Do you have NTL/Chorus broadband?

I have to admit that th egame isn't terrible, it's just these errors and bugs that kill it!
I am using Chorus/NTL (UPC) broadband. I'm assuming it's an ip issue with how the game is configured?

I don't know the Ins and Outs of the issues associated with UPC Broadband... All I know is that all UPC Customers are having connection issues with CoD:WW.

I've read only the last 20 posts in the thread ,I played my first call of duty game last week. COD:WAW

Offline was enjoyable ,but its very short. For me the online is great and I can't stop playin it.
Someone mentioned that the dogs are a nuisance but I find them a good way to make players stick together.
I've ordered modern warfare game of the year edition ,so I might enjoy that even more.

Btw ,suprised to hear the trouble people are having with NTL ,I was about to order broadband from them tomorrow but now I'll hold off for a while ,thanks.

I'm on UPC 20Mb and I could never get CodWW to work

From some testing I think its a combination of packet shaping and some network protocals used solely on NTL exchange routers. Its not something that's going to be fixed, because NTL don't care and nobody working for Treytech would even know where to begin. If you go into a direct connection to the NTL modem it should fix some of the problems. The other one, there is a tutorial on youtube about it.

You basically have to load the game up, have it bail out on you, quit and load it up again, let your profile connect normally and then check the server menu only using quick refresh.

Excuse me please :( ,just wondering if the problems are only on PC's or all platforms with UPC/NTL ?

Experienced my first bug yesterday. When I minimise World at War and maximise it again, the screen stays completely blank. Left it for 5 minutes and nothing. So I can't minimise if I'm playing, it's quit or nothin'. Also, when launching the game, if I click on anything on the desktop while the splash screen is loading, it also just launches into a blank screen and I have to force end process. Not huge deals but....

I'm still playing this, so much so that I just sold my copy of COD4. Honestly, it's an excellent MP game. Wish they'd just ditch the Martyrdom though.
