    Via ChopShop.
On his newest release Talk Strange, Dert, one of Cali’s finest beatmakers, has brought together two of music’s great innovators - Hip-Hop and Bjork - into another work full of invention and entertainment. Dert’s last release, The Short List was one of ’08’s finest, showing off an exceptional ability to sample and to produce differents moods and sounds over the course of single tracks. Its unsuprising that Dert manages to use a wide range of samples from the Icelandic genuis’s incredible catalogue and incorporate them so convincingly into a Hip-Hop landscape full of robust drums and pounding bass, as Dert has prior in this kind of work, one of his earlier projects mixing Pink Floyd and Hip-Hop together.

Most importantly, the project is a success because Dert achieves an appealing balance. Bjork fans can wrack their brains trying to pick out the samples, while those without musical taste who don’t like Bjork will find Dert doesn’t rely too heavily on her works, and keeps everything suitably straightforward and Hip-Hop. Everyone will be attracted by the quality of the beats and by yet another slice of creative instrumental Hip-Hop from one of our most overlooked producers.

Will give it a bash. There's a free mash up album between Radiohead and Jay Z available, just google Jaydiohead. Being a huge fan of Radiohead and not really a fan of Jay Z I was surprised to find I didn't hate it and I think mashups are awful. It'd be hard to make the I Might Be Wrong instrumental sound anything but awesome though.

It's not too shabby, listened to it a couple of times today. I like that the tracks dont drag on, the longest one is 2 min 51 seconds. Some intrumental albums tend to have songs that go (nowhere) forever. I was expecting it to be more 'Bjorky' but the use is quite subtle in most places.

But when I sit back and think about it, if i compare this to the likes of Blockhead (Music By Cavelight|Uncle Tony's Colouring Book) or Maker (Shooting The Breeze), it doesnt really come close. And when compared to Shadows' Entroducing, it is miles away in terms of quality. Not saying it aint good, but it aint brilliant. I'd keep an ear out for other Dert stuff from now on.

I really don't think anyone is expecting it to be on the quality of some of instrumental Hip-Hop's finest albums. Its a free beat tape after all. ;)
