I had the weirdest dream about Eastenders and Jose Mourniho, how Eastenders was evil or somethijng

Anyway, I use to be subjected to Star Trek when I was younger... I still have nightmares over that. :(

Its brain fodder for the brain dead. Monotonous garbage regurgitated consistently.

Give me a programme any day where you actually need to use your brain in gear, not comatose to follow it.

It's just an ordinary show about ordinary people trying to make it through their ordinary lives.

    Why you people gotta hate?

Wot a wuss. You let her do that to you. You need to have a more equal relationship and get some porno channels - you watch an hour of Eastenders and with her then she watches an hour of porno with you.

Easy sexual equality at work. Who says feminism doesnt work.

So, countdown? Even that you don't need to use your brain, you can just look at Carroll's tits most of the time.

Eastenders is morose depressing rubbish. That one person would inflict it on another person is awful.

Its no more ordinary people than Podge and Rodge are.

A murder or two every Christmas, Sisters who turn out to be mother and daughter, psychopathic murderers, rapists. The list goes on.

    Ordinary you say? hmmm

Anyway, it's complete rubbish. Applies to every soap. People should really stop living their lives through tv characters. Women over a certain age love it though and the ****e gets made. I have no problem with it personally, as long as their are quality shows out their like the Wire, Sopranos etc.....

Well, I'm glad your Christmas was peaceful but it isn't that way for everyone. It's a just a microcosm of society at large, same as any other drama.

You should start a thread about your neighbourhood. It sounds exciting.

Eastenders shows barely functional abusing each other and its piped to our houses daily. How sad is that.

OP is forced to watch it -Eewwww:eek:

If you hate it, don't watch it. Go for a walk or something. More people don't watch it than do, so nobody's forcing you to do anything

Are you the OPs OH by any chance.

If Eastenders interferes with your relationships you should cut it out.

Post it on the thread to make it real and show it to your OH.

Hey, I didn't say it was a microcosm of my neighbourhood but of society.

You don't actually think there were three witches toying with Macbeth, do you?

Shakespeare exageratted the number of witches, for dramatic effect.

Nope, I'm one of those people who know they don't like so I don't bother watching it. If his missus can't stand to be apart from him for 30 minutes, he should dump her.

I just can't see how anyone can get worked up over a TV programme

Will people stop using this arguement. I honestly think that saying something like this or "Have you ever heard of a remote" is the most pointless thing to say.

People are entitled to their opinions. Soap Operas more then any other type of Drama will get this due to them being on nearly everyday of the week. It's hard to avoid them.

How is my argument "pointless" while people "hating" a TV show is rational or logical?

Its not hard to avoid them. They're all on between 7 and 8.30, and they never clash with each other. If Eastenders is on 2 channels, there are still at least 3 channels if you want to watch something you don't hate. Not to mention the fact that you don't have to watch TV in the first place.

I don't like soaps, so I don't watch them. A lot of people do watch them. What exactly is the problem?

I am sure "hate" is a strong word to use but they are being critical of the show and if people want to use that word then they can.

Telling people to go for a walk or do something else doesn't help anyone.

It is getting to the point when I am being critical of something on TV I am told to change channel or go for a walk. I didn't complain to get that responce TBH.

Telling someone to stop watching something they hate is absolutely helping them. It really is that simple. Do you think people complaining about it on an Irish discussion forum helps anyone?
I didn't complain to get that responce TBH.

    Tough.

I don't mean to sound like an arsehole but it can't really be any simpler. The show is enjoyed by milllions. If you're not one of them, why bother?

There's a world of difference between people discussing TV shows and their relative merits and people coming on here dismissing everything that isn't to their tastes. Its not as if eastenders hasn't been doing this exact type of programme for the past 20+ years

I hate eastenders too -and cornation street and fair city.

They are banned in my house. No I dont think the represent society and hope they never will, certainly they do0nt represent my life.

    They are bleak and depressing.

Shakespeare - I would go to one of his plays.

Go into another room. Its fairly simple. I'm sure the lack dont like to watch football with you. Growing men running around in shorts after a bit of leather aint everyones idea of fun. Bit of give and take.

I agree that its pure tripe but I have a solution for you.

For the duration of each episode (1/2 hour) go and do something fukking else and let her have her little bit of enjoyment.

Yes, I have to admit I fail to see the attraction of Eastenders, of all the soaps. Somebody must be watching though or it would've been cancelled by now. When the soaps come on the TV, I use them as a trigger to get up off the couch and do something else.

In fairness the title of the Thread isn't fair to EastEnders but you are just as dismissive as the OP when you couldn't respond to this sound criticism of the show.

    They are bleak and depressing.

CDfm even was able to give the same advice that you gave, to him/herself.
Shakespeare - I would go to one of his plays.

And yes they would be better of then spending 3hours watching soap operas.

But we all know that we can either change the channel or go for a walk.

20 years there are better programmes available and more talent people and yet ITV, BBC and RTE continue to employee the same old, same old.

Now be a bit more constructive with you appraisal of Eastenders.

And yes I will continue to change channel etc when it comes on.

Isn't East Enders there for people who are just too lazy to challenge their bodies and minds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Hasn't it been proven that prolonged viewing of Eastenders and its associated dark themes has lead to a rise in the amount of serial killer taxi drivers? Makes sense when you think about it.

it was a fair criticism of the show. I only said that she probably gets stuck in the room watching something he likes that she dont like. Thats grand though cos if everyone liked the same things it would be a boring world.

That's totally wrong. It has given rise to more truck driver serial killers. It actually makes taxi drivers feel better when they see people having crapper lives than them

So far we have been told that EastEnders is really popular and has a huge audience. So it must be a pretty boring world.

Maybe it's because society is getting more bleak and depressing, but Fair City at least is doing a good job of representing recent events. Building projects cancelled, characters losing their jobs and going to London to look for work, people having trouble paying bills. That's not fantasy.

Other soapy stuff is happening too, obviously, and I can't answer for Eastenders, but Fair City is doing a better job of depicting current Irish life than anything I've seen in a theatre in the last year.

I haven't watched Eastenders's in years, but last week I had to visit a relation and had the misfortune of walking in when the whole weeks shows were on back 2 back!!! O M G !!!! After I left the house I felt like slitting my wrist's or getting drunk (I picked the latter) :(:(.....I can't believe they can call something so depressing a "Soap Opera"...I've often watched happier episode's of "Silent Witness"....I'll stick with good old Fair City:D

Eastenders, like most things on the BBC has gone to the dogs. Dreadful characters, dreadful storylines. It infuriates me too.
