Christmas aint the same for me and hasnt been for the last 2 years. basically nowadays i only have small xmas with parents and siblings (which is still great) but we used to always go to my aunties house and there would be all the family....normally about 20 people.but no its only 8 people maximum. for me the whole atmosphere of what xmas used to be is gone. although saying that Christmas is still the best time of year and i love being able to celebrate it with my family :D

well, family on my fathers side have recently seperated, and will be unlikely to see my uncle or cousin again since they werent particularly close to us at all. my aunt has broken down completely, and is now seeing a counsellor. we all used to meet at my grannys house and exchange gifts, but half the people are going to be missing now. my granny is quite sick at the moment and in her 80's, so there's always the worry she might not get better. together with working nonstop til yesterday at the job that causes me most stress, and having to resume that tomorrow, id like a few more days off. the job i do like, im in right now, but because i wasnt thinking im not sure i have enough petrol to get home from kilkenny to carlow afterwards to drive to my grannys. apart from the underlying worries of normal life, im enjoying christmas for what it is though. a chance for a whole 24 hours to not have to face up to anything, and spend time with my family who i rarely get to see anymore, and certainly never altogether

Swimming in the sea and lounging on the beach in 30 degree heat definitely does not feel like Christmas, but it's great!

Doesn't feel like Christmas at all for me. It was weird seeing a Christmas tree when it's 30 odd degrees outside. Just didn't feel right. So i came home for a few weeks and i've been in bed all day. Think i'll just write Christmas off this year.

Ah, it appears that for all my pessimism in the OP it was a good Christmassy Christmas after all. We went up to my aunts for dinner, a 2 hour drive first thing in the morning (probably what had me down yesterday) but the whole family was there, for the first time since my Granny died a few years ago. It was very nice catching up. I hope you all had as nice a day as I did.

It's been officially been the most sober XMas for me in years, and i'm delighted. Only had half a bottle of buckfast this mornin after my swim, ended up stayin sober the rest of the day - suited me fine cause I visited a load of people (ie. I could drive) but definately does NOT feel like XMas at all

Christmas tree, presents, sweets, day flying by really fast, actually watching television, a fire and a family dinner for once

    'tis definitely Christmas time. :)

meh, it's my first xmas in new zealand, the weather is warm, i've spent the last week out surfing in a springsuit, nobody on my street has any decorations up that can be seen from the street, in the heart of the city here, there's very very few decorations, and ive only heard 'fairytale of new york' once.

doesnt feel even remotely like christmas.

and christmas ended an hour and 7 minutes ago.
My cousin is in NZ so we set up a weblink with her to wish each other a Merry Christmas. Didn't quite work due to a bad connection but was a nice thought nonetheless!
