No way of knowing. It's the waiting game for you, it can take anything up to 3 months I believe.

no i am actually financially secure but was just being aloof and somewhat sarcastic. the information i require is regarding the functionality of the camera not what i should do with my money.for the record i acknowledge i was in the wrong, deserve it etc etc, should not have been going that fast etc etc. incidentally i have no points as it stands(so these will be my first). im not tony soprano , just someone who drove too fast.any info regarding said camera would be much appreciated

You should ask the Gardai as nobody here is likely to be able to give you an accurate answer.

Maybe you should become more aware of where the fixed speed traps are. The most effective speed reducing system is not the fixed or mobile traps but the SPECS average speed camera system.

my understanding is that there are these units to hold the cameras stationed in various parts of the country but that there are only 3 cameras in the country which are moved from position to position.if the thing flashed its because there was a camera inside and you have indeed been framed.

Imagine if you hit a tree at that speed or a law abiding road user.

i just imagined it and it wasn't very nice.
but in reality 140 k at 1 a.m. ,providing the driver isn't drunk or tired ,isn't particularly dangerous.
a bullet seems a tad harsh.

Yeah, imagine hitting them at the 120kph speed limit.

no damage at ALL would be done!

Do you drive with you eyes closed? Part of being a responsible driver is knowing whats around you, not just making sure the radio is loud enough so you cant hear the engine then stareing straight ahead till your car somehow arrives at it's destination.

Do you plough through stop signs, yield signs and traffic lights the same way? "ah sure i'm not from the area so I dont need to take any notice of them"

and come to think of it the law abiding road user would'nt be abiding the law if he's out wandering on the motorway,he would be deserving of a good smack of a car.

A while back I was heading northbound on the M50, going about 80km in the 60 zone, past the Tallaght exit and there was a flash in my RVM. It was really bright, daylight at the time and I was the only one there. ''Fúck!'' I thought, it's been over a year since and I haven't heard anything.

I was driving a company car at the time, so maybe the company couldn't associate that car with me? (which they really should) I dunno.

All I know is that 60km is a stupid limit on the M50, even with the road works.

I bet you'd feel different if you were workign a few feet from the traffic 8 hours a day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,214 ✭✭✭afatbollix

then it should of been 50kph as if you are doing 60kph you have a 80% chance of dieing if hit by a car where 80% of surviving if hit at 50kph so where is the logic with that???

also our motorways were built to a way higher spec than 120kph and can take up to 160kph speed limits...

    Not really, no.

    Not really, no.

Give it a go, stand just over the metal crash barrier in the central median for a day a see what you think. A car passing by you a few feet away at nearly 100 mph is not a pleasent thing.

That's funny though, cos the limit would be 75mph, not 100.

The roads are able for much more than that.

    It's a shame our driver's weren't, then.

As apposed to dump trucks, diggers, drills and other construction paraphernalia that workers have to put up with throughout their whole career?

That's why there are things such as ear muffs to protect hearing.

As for the physical aspect of just standing metres away from moving traffic, that's the nature of the job and that's what they're paid for. Suck it up tbh.

what century is this? do they have to take out the roll of film every week and send it off to Boots to get developed? do they keep the negatives? maybe you could request an enlargement!

erm i think maybe digital technology is possibly utilised!

A slow moving dumper truck is much easier to keep an eye on that a car flying over a barrier at 120kmph.

Who said anythign about hearing? The issue here is having cars hurtlign past you close by. It's the risk of catastrophic pile ups involving people not in cars aswell. The lanes are also fairly tight at Tallaght while the barriers are there, someone overtakign a large truck at 120kmph has very little margin for error.

They dont have to suck it up, the limit is 60 so that the risk of airborne cars is minimised.

When the limit is 120, people do 140+ on a regular basis. We are talkign about real world effects here, not one where everyone obeys limits.

Even with narrow lanes, uneven sections and crash barriers right on the edge of the lane lmarkings? Theres also slow moving construction traffic merging from time to time.

We are talking about the sections with roaod works btw. The completed sections do not have 60 limits.

Yes is the short answer to that. No to boots of course.

Many instances of flying cars on the M50 is there?

I never said 120kmph, I said 80kmph. Which is a perfectly safe speed to overtake at, considering the majority of drivers around me every morning and evening are traveling at that speed. I must say though, I usually stick to 60kmph, because I'm rarely in a rush and I'm happy enough at that speed most of the time, doesn't mean it's not stupid though.

Again, never heard of any flying cars on the M50, and if there were some kind of accident, I'm sure the thick concrete wall would offer sufficient protection. In fact you're probably safer in the central meridian of the M50 than you are walking down an average street.
