Race with no watches/ no markers

    It was my first experience of running in a race where watches weren't permitted and there was no mile/km markers, last Saturday. It was "only" a 5k so pacing wasn't a huge issue.
    The idea was to predict your finishing time and then see how your run time compared to this. The "winners" were then based on who got closest to their predict time.
    I'm sure this system just favours the elite runners as they almost know how far they travel in 100 paces etc.
    The finish line came way too soon for me (I wasn't familiar with the course) and I undershot my predict time by 1:30. Enjoyable race though.
    How common are these races, and does anyone have any tips for pacing?

    I know theres one on on the 2oth the djouce handicap it's an 8K if I'm right, check out the IMRA site, it does sound like a bit of fun

    I'd love this type of race too, at the moment i'm getting better at know the spead i'm going on my runs, usually correct to 15 secs per mile (on a route I know).

    There is a good artical on the mcmillan site called "Calibrating Your Inner GPS" i've read this a few times but havent gone through all the workout the give , the idea does sound good.
