I wanted to get away for a week or so over Christmas. Do they have Hostels that would be good in Crotia or Prague or somewhere where you could stay cheaply & get around for a while?

Yes they do. Try somewhere like www.hostelworld.com

So, I mean you could do it for fairly cheap? Anyone know anywhere good to go this time of year?

I've recently stayed in Berlin and Krakow in nice hostels called Singer 109 and Mamas which cost 14 and 9 euro respectively.

And you can fly with Ryanair to both cities.

You can do loads of Eastern Europe cheaply.

Where you go depends on your interests. What are you after?

Just a nice city to get away for a week, somewhere good for New Year's maybe.
Does anyone have any ideas of where would be good to go? If I'd stay in a hostel say, where would be best?
I'd just really be paying for the flights though, right?

Not really. Czech Republic and Poland are about 1/2 to 2/3rds the price of Ireland. Some things are a lot cheaper (vodka and cigarettes), so it will hardly be free.

Non-EU Eastern Europe, such as Ukraine or Serbia is about 1/3rd the price, but substantially harder to get to.

By the way, I recommend Krakow (try Hostel MomoTown in the Jewish quarter).
