It'll be the same as usual.

First of all they'll have a stupid report on the traveller community, telling us how decent they are and that they dont have any rights.
Secondly, there will be a counter argument claiming that travellers are scumbags and they need to be controlled etc.
Thirdly, there will be debate baack in the studio. My prediction is two politicians and the obligatory educated traveller(he has a moustache) will scrap it out over some "pressing topic"
Fourthly, I'd rather eat my own face than watch this.

and I'd rather watch you eat your own face than watch this... , nnhg maybe if both were on at the same time, I could flick over and back between the two, and still keep up with "History of Violence" on C4 at the same time.

the entertainment.ie (which I think is the same as the Hearld ??) listing for the show ..

"Barry O'Kelly explores the experiences of the traveller community, learning about their struggle with discrimination and how their reputation is tarred by a small violent minority."

"a small minority"... my guess is that men only make up 45ish % of the community and if only half of them are sober enough to fight .. then 20ish% is a small-ish minority

No links to illegal uploads / downlaods.

    It'll be on rte.ie anyway.

Dont know whether i should watch this or not, i usually get high blood pressure when they try to justify how they are being discriminated against all the time.

Last week's investigative program was excellent but it looks like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel with this. Not really a burning issue

I'm acting in the interests of this site.

I'd rather not see the owners getting in trouble for linking to illegal file sharing sites or for promoting illegal file sharing.

I'd love to see the travellers host a prime time and do an investigation into us, can anyone think of some things they may come up with....?

Based on my encounters with them in Bray over the years, I'd say I should have lent them my phone and given them my chips more often.

Good to see they have some educational programmes for the ones that were denied education..................................................but "discrimination" being the first word they are taught is just asking for trouble.

They would conclude we are a culture of filthy, thieving, cheating, lying knackers that sh1t where we eat and are so without morals that we need the guards to enforce our laws rather than take care of them ourselves.

Some of the wimmins are purdy.

I'll keep the rest of my opinions to myself I think.

I think the whole thing is summed up pretty much by the blonde on the halting site who says she hates being discriminated againest....then the interviewer asks her if she would marry a settled man. "Sure i couldnt says she, my family would disown me"....:pac:

What if you were suddenly told you were being evicted and had to live in a caravan? When all you've known is living in houses you wouldn't want to live in a caravan.

I can see both sides of the argument. It's part of their culture to live in caravans, the same way it is part of our culture to live in houses. At the same time, they choose to live in caravans, which as a rule, do not have electricity, water or toilets so they can't really claim these as their right. If their ancestors managed without running water or toilets couldn't we say that's also part of their culture?

I've known some travelers, some of them went to my school. They were alright. Good people. Anectdotal evidence but I speak as I find.

Dito, was just thinking the same.

In relation to the programme, I do think the age of those getting married was a bit of a shame and/or drawback but then again, that's their culture so I'll say nothing more about the other areas covered.

Yeah there was a few in my year, I used to talk to them as i know people avoid and ignore them, It got me out of a few risky situations, One of them would spot me and tell them to leave it out.

There was one in my class, sound fella, He knew how to fix everything, But he had great difficulty reading.

I thought the programme had a very amateurish element to it....... I dont give a crap either way, settled or traveller, if you are a dirty, money grabbing lazy git-I dont like you and dont want you near me!

I am confused that I dont see any reports on travellers doing anything to sort out their own issues. Ok they want to live in a halting site with water and electricity (and horses), then what is stopping them providing it for themselves? why are the settled community expected to provide it?

Many of them earn their own money, if they want independance and freedom then why dont any travellers buy their own sites?

Has anyone heard of a traveller paying their way to provide for the lifestyle they choose?
