Murder/rape/paedo/abduction stories

Is anyone else a bored of logging onto AH to see yet another thread where people cry "Omg look at teh state of teh world!!" about the latest (see list above) that has happened? And there's the inevitable vigilante response. Its so cliched its the news equivalent of yore ma posts. Besides which, there are perfectly useful news&media/politics/humanities sections to boards, these thread should probably go there. (although I suspect part of the reason they don't is because they inane responses would lead to lockage before the second page). So what is the general feeling towards these threads? Should they be gotten rid of? A stickie at the top of AH for all your tales of the end of society? Or just left alone for the angry mob to get their file of bile for the day?

Agreed - after hours is mostly for stuff that doesn't really fit in anywhere else - this kinda stuff can easily go on the news forum.

After hours is mostly for discussion (usually involving people joking around)- what is there to discuss about some guy raping some poor girl - not like somebody is gonna come out and go "I think rape is ok." There is nothing to discuss in these threads - yet they somehow still manage to reach ten pages of rape jokes and torture fantasies.

Perhaps some form of "Revenge Fantasy" forum where the kind of tabloid reading morons who get cry out in impotent rage at the perpetrators can get an unfettered chance to indulge in their favoured systems of punishment which would seem a bit over the top, even in the Old Testament?

I don't know, I think the "oh my gawd it's so sad!" comments help to balance things out a little. I mean can you imagine some archaeologist painstakingly reconstructing the 1s and 0s from an ancient hard drive and recovering those threads? Without the odd sympathetic post in there to balance out the puns, the jokes and the "she was asking for it" type comments, he'd think we were all heartless bastards when in fact that's only half true.

To be fair, I think that stuff is very rare on such threads. They're usually only by one or two trolls who end up being warned or banned anyway.
From what I've seen, those threads are nearly always comprised of torture fantasies, comments expressing sadness/outrage, arguments between the Daily Mail-ites and the do-gooders.

Ah tbh any thread, no matter how many revenge fantasies etc, it contains usually has the kernal of a story in it.

If you want to contribute to the fantasies part go ahead and if you feel like berating the justice system go ahead. You're totally free to do what you like and that includes staying out of it completely if it offends your sensibilities.
