9800 GT or 8800 GT

    Just wondering which is a better card: an Nvidia 8800 GT (384mb) or a 9800 GT(512)

    I've read some conflicting info on the net so figured the trustworthy boardsies are the place to turn.

    The 9800GT would give you better performace. But there nearly the same card, thats what i heard anyway?

    Theres a guy sellin 2 9800GT's on adverts for 90 euro each. http://adverts.ie/80337 EDIT: Looks like he hasnt been on in a while though.

    I would go for the 9800 anyway, the 8 series is getting kinda old :p.

    and the extra memory on the 9800 would help too. :D

    They're the same, the 9800GT is the 8800GT(G92) with added Tri-sli. Lots of people get fooled by Nvidia's name changes...............but hold on, thats the old 8800GT, the G90, not the G92 as the G92 has 512MB ram, G90 is a generation older.............therefore the 9800GT is faster than this 8800GT. Confused?

    Btw, where are You finding the G90? I thought they were all gone.

    If you're talking about the cards I recommended to you it's an 8800GS, not an 8800GT. There was only 256/512mb G90 GT's. The 9800Gt is unquestionably better but it's also 30-40 quid more expensive when you compare the cheapest against cheapest, so you're not comparing the same class cards.

    If you're using a normal sized monitor like 17" there's not much between them. I had 8800GS in Sli and when running single card mode was easily able to still play COD4 at 1680x1050 max settings.

    Obviously though if you've a 24" monitor then the 9800GT will totally destroy the GS.

    Yeah, I couldn't see the 8800 in PC world, could only see the 9800GT.

    I'm happy enough with the GT, seems like an excellent card once I get the power sorted.

    How is it an epic fail? When it came out it was very much an epic win, check out any review. I had 2 of them in Sli, pulled 15k+ 3dmark06 and ran COD4 at 1920x1200 max settings with AA/AF @ a solid 60-90FPS.

    I am of course referning to the GS card in my laptop. 8400M GS
