Aw, I was hoping it'd be better than that. Shame.

Yeah, it wasn't brilliant. Although he was spot on with everything he said about the game.

It's funny though that he gives a game like Saint's Row an easy ride, despite being a fairly shameless & derivative rip off of another game / genre, yet tears Mirrors Edge a new arse for its faults, despite being a genuinely new concept. Something which I'm sure he has bemoaned the lack of in the past. Yeah though having watched it I was fairly disappointed so I don't think I'll be in such a hurry in future to post the latest one up here!

It really is a love it or hate it game and he hated it. I thought The Escapist pays for his games now anyway so why did he mention forking out 100 bucks.

But then again Saints Row 2 is the game GTA IV should have been. Despite it's faults it's still great fun while GTA lost it's soul and sense of fun when it tried to go serious and ended up failing bady due to the samey missions and awful writing.

also he admits to admiring its stab at originality but he also points out that the elements that make it original were elements he foresaw not working as intended and the indecisive game design pulled it down alot.

Oh yes I agree the wheels have come off GTA somewhat, but it seems like you can't win with Yahtzee sometimes. Not to get too into the minutiae of his argument, but brevity, something he holds against Mirrors Edge, can't be totally held against a game when he openly defended Portal's own shortness as an advantage. I definitely think he has an inbuilt bias against EA though. Suppose at the end of the day he's his own man with his own (extreme) opinions, just seems with the weekly reviews he's crashing from one extreme to the other while losing his touch.

yahtzee's all about the playability, which is as it should be. Should be noted that he lauded this mirror yoke for it's innovation even though it's pish apparently.

Playing through it at the moment, and I love it. However, I do agree with him that it was an error to have so much of the game indoors.

To me this game should of been like SKATE. It should of been all about the free running, finding lines, getting to a location on time... etc. The fighting is unavoidable in parts, something which is starting to irritate me as I find disarming someone without using slowmo very tedious and hit and miss. The story is pointless also, to the point where I've just stop caring about the cutscenes.

This games main saving grace is the replayability in the time trials, something which kept me coming back to Sonic long after I'd completed it.

It would of also been cool if they'd made the game sandbox, allowing you to explore the environment.

    This week.... Left 4 Dead

Great review this week, even if he was sitting on the fence a little.

I loved the title of the zombie movie at the start: "Oh Christ, them cunts be dead." :D

Nonsense. He might laud Portal for its brevity because of the simple fact that Portal did all it ever needed to do in the space the designers gave it, had instant replayability, and didn't leave you feeling cheated. Whereas Mirror's Edge might be equally short, but leaves you feeling you didn't really get to do anything. Context, context, context.

Instant replayablity? Don't get me wrong, I liked Portal but once I finished it, I was done with it. Still haven't touched it since. Once you've solved all the puzzles what's to go back for?

he liked F4D a bit much.

nothing really scathing. good review I guess but nothing compared to his 'reviews'

The instant I finished Portal I loaded up a new game and played it right through again.

Must say, he was bang on with the Silent Hill series (besides 4)

    Great games

    Two mediocre reviews.

I liked Mirrors Edge. It wasn't perfect but it was very original. +1 L31mr0d.

Wow; after a few weeks of pretty mediocre reviews, Yahtzee lashes out with a genuinely funny rant. Poor Sonic! Though one really, really does wonder why they keep releasing these games. Or who buys them.

That was class. I actually thought he was going to like it when he started going on about it.

I have to say though, that GameDamage thing is just terrible. They don't describe any of the games particularly well, the news and previews just don't seem as informative as they could be, the sketches are horrific and they should really be ashamed of themselves. And what's with the guy in the middle wobbling all the time? It's like he's got parkinsons or something.
