HOW TO STOP CHARITY CLOTHES STICKERS IN YOUR LETTERBOX IN THE EARLY MORNING

    Okay it isn't illegal what they are doing in the bye-laws because you have a letterbox it is not illegal for anybody to put something it when ever they want. You need to do a couple of things. Sorry, I'm assuming your in Dublin City Council district. You need to make a report with the garda by going down to your loacal station in person and everytime after they place something in your letterbox at this time. Call the garda at the time and ask them to issue an ASBO Anti Social Behaviour Order. Not, a very strong form of legal action but something at least and the individuals can be identified. Secondly, you need to contact Bernie Lillis in Dublin City Council Ph: 01-2224243 she is the Senior Staff Officer for Litter. Ask her how she can help with the situation. If she says she can't ask her to send out a written reason why the council can't do anything about it. When you get this reply from her take this to your local councillors or TDs along with your police report and ask them do something about it. Remember, they need your vote. After that tell any friends or neighbours to do the same if they have the same problem. Your not on your own. Personally, I couldn't give a damn about the so-call charities or what they do. But, they interfere with my sleep, that's a serious problem for me. STAY STRONG. We can defeat these f@ckers with people power

    I just bin them and I prefer not to waste the local gardai's (probably incorrect?) time

    That's a lot of trouble you're going to. You have a lot of time on your hands to do all this

    So, you don't mind something being thrown into your letterbox at 3.30am to 4.30am in the morning up to 4 times a week. Waking you and your family. My time is spent to ensure i try to get an unbroken sleep.

    same with me. i use the bags for waste and put the leaflets in the green bin.

    slightly ot but i used to get non stop spam from mbna and the like trying to get me to sign up for a credit card with them. i got so fed up that i kept all the pizza leaflets, charity flyers, politician crap etc.. and sent it all in the reply envelope. i havent had any more crap off them in months

    I don't see this as being a specific Dublin City problem. It happens in all counties. Moved to After Hours.

    Guys, these parasites don't issue bags any more-just generic stickers.

    RORUS, I would pat your back and subscribe to your newsletter (because I couldn't agree with you more), but when plod can't muster the enthusiasm to(or fails to see the point of) dealing with such trivialities as tax fraud, public order, petty theft and other issues, I doubt they're going to chase up a load of Latvians in a rented transit.

    If you drive an English reg car though, or your tax is out a day-in short if they can spell your name and know you're not going anywhere, may God have mercy on your soul.

    The information I gave was for Dublin City people. My object is to get my neighbourhood to oust these f@ckers. And I left the information for anybody in Dublin City who would like to do something about it.

    If I called the Garda in Ballymun about this they'd tell me to fck off.

    Just wait for them to come to your door with the stickers/bag and as they're about to post it in your letter box, open the door quickly and just stand there naked, covered in tomato kethcup and with an axe in your hand without saying anything.

    Defeatism is easier to say than to actually act. This country doesn't have a culture where people complain. Imagine maybe in France or Eastern European country or poor or 3rd world country. If the locals don't like your actions they'll probably hack you bleedin head off. Or hang you in the town square. We are to passive here in Ireland, the easiest solution is to throw money at the situation. More security, more police. But, if the locals act that's a different dynamic. It's a statement of will

    If you're a light sleeper you could put a postbox on the gate and lock it. The gate, that is, not the postbox.

    As for the fiendish criminals making their fortunes out of Irish people's old clothes, the more publicity it gets, the more likely they are to cease and desist.

    The charities are losing a lot of money out of it, and according to one charity guy talking on Liveline, the money made out of scammed clothes goes to fuel other crime.

    You could try sleeping in a bedroom, rather than on the floor beside the letterbox.

    Anyway, you're presumably unemployed if you have this kind of time on your hands, hassling a load of people who have far better and more important things to do, so what's the big deal about being woken up at 4:30am?

    I made a little lock for my letter box. Once the post man has been, I lock the letter box. Problem solved :D

    Can you get a letterbox that you put in the driveway/beside your front door. Can get them in Woodies or the likes. Might get you a decent sleep at least.

    I actually agree with the OP here.

    It's not just the fake charity leaflets, but the constant menus and free papers which contain nothing but advertisments.

    It really has gone beyond a joke ove rthe last few years.

    Just accost them after they throw the crap in your door, follow them home and throw lots of unk mail through their post boxes.

    I actually caught one of those clothing leaflet dicks going through my recycle bin at about 4 one morning.

    As my mother would sat "you've little to bother you".

    Do you seriously believe that your local Gardai will be interested in unwanted junk mail? You may end up being the boy who cried 'wolf'.

    And if you have trouble sleeping at night, spare a thought for those of us who work at night and have to sleep during the day.
