Just tried it there... No. You don't get any credit on the sim.
But, if you register your details and put €10 every month, they'll give you up to €50 credit.
Also, if you switch over from another network, they give you up to €80.
    http://meteor.ie/plans/switch_to_meteor/

Even if you don't want to put a lot of credit onto it, it's still handy for those nights out when you meet someone who you don't want ringing your 'real' phone for ages after...;)

I thought on the sign-up page they said something about free calls to Meteor phones and free texts to any network for life...?

That's the only reason I wanted the SIM, sure why else would you want it?

    You should still get those.
So, there's really no reason to buy credit if your only calling other Meteor people.. Though, it did say something (somewhere) about putting in €10 "to get started".

Is the free-calls and texts offer, not subject to you buying a certain minimum amount of credit per month?

I'm really not sure. Tried calling an 085 number, but couldn't get through. The person I tried calling might have switched providers, but kept their 085 number
Will have to look into all the T&C's later.

I know you can send 300 free texts from the site, when you register

Not exactly- the €20 credit lapses if not used within a pre-defined time scale (normally 4 to 6 months).

In essence its a €20 a month pre-pay price plan, with free intra-network texts and calls. The 'Free' message is a marketing ploy- which a lot of people who should know better, have bought into......

Its good value if you accept that there is a price to be paid for the 'freebie' and that price is that anyone on another network who calls or texts you is subsidising your interaction with them (Meteor still have permission to apply punitive termination charges on other networks from Comreg).

That's a shame. The sim card arrived yesterday. Now it's going in the bin.

The free calls and texts are only for 30days are they not?? Once the 30 days lapses any calls/texts regardless if they are meteor are charged and taken out of the €20 credit.

Not if you topup by another €20. If you don't use the €20 within 6 months (incremented by another €20 each month), it simply gets erased from your account. In addition- anyone calling the Meteor network from another network pays a surcharge ontop of the normal termination charge(allegedly in order to foster competition).
