problems with antivirus

my 2008 norton antivus is out so i went to install 2009 norton antivirus.....but its gone wrong, when i put in the disc it told me it had to remove the out of date norton and restart the pc. now here is where the poblem is, when it restarted it initaises for ages and when i go to task manager it says its isnt responding,…

Try running the norton removal tool to get rid of the remnants of the previous version, http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

if you cant run it in normal mode try safe mode first, also if your anti virus was out of date for a while you may have a virus infection that is preventing the new installation
