Listening to it right now. Am only on the second song. It's certainly a departure. Kanye's been my favourite artist of the last few years. Will listen to it a few times, and post my opinion on it then.

Paranoid is the best track imo.
    Pinocchio Story is painfully bad.
    Hate Love Lockdown.
Song with Jeezy isn't bad, song with Wayne is pretty bad.
    Robocop and Heartless are ok.
Street Lights is meh, whatever is left is forgettable.

Lyrically it's poor. Production is ok. Kanye can't sing even with autotune.

It's not an album I'd recommend, oh and it's definitely not a Hip-Hop album.

Listened to the album right through in the car tonight and I seriously dont think I could do it again. Im not the biggest Kanye fan but this album is pretty bad overall.

Pinocchio Story is a bonus track. You can't really hold that against the album.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Still shouldn't be on it, bonus or not. It's completely out of place why bother including it at all?

    Hey,
Started a new thread on Kanye and his new sound called "Kanye: A new chapter..."
Throw your two cents in...wonder what you'll think...

Played it today and not terribly impressed on the first go.

The first few songs sound pretty much the same. It kinda picked up after that. At least he changed the tempo and the mood changed a bit.

Paranoid's a pretty good song. The standout one on the first play anyway.

I'll give it a few more spins before judging too harshly.

Overall a pretty good album, but after 3 superb ones, I expected more of Kanye. I agree, Paranoid is the standout track.
I actually quite like Pinocchio Story. It's very dark, a bit of a window to the soul of someone who's battling with his demons. "I just wanna be a real boy". Lets hope he doesn't go Michael Jackson on us.

I'm looking forward to his next, proper album. Hopefully he'll drop the autotune. Interestingly, I was listening to College Dropout today, and he was using it on "Graduation Day", nearly 5 years ago. So I suppose you can't really accuse him of jumping on a bandwagon.

    How this board works:

I hate _______, he/she has really fallen off since their Independent/Major Label debut ________. I'd rather listen to ___________ (insert name of unheard-of MC to make you appear credible)

Feel free to copy and paste if a thread about Ludacris' new album pops up

Apply that to the posts made in this thread so far then.

Or are you just a bit miffed that people aren't liking the album as much as you?

Feel free to actually post something relevant the next time a thread pops up.

    The production.

Although I wouldn't descibe Late Reg as 'superb'. Its pretty patchy.

Yeah, I think that too. I'm always surprised to see critics rating Late Registration so highly. I thought it was a step down from College Dropout.

It's a good album but I think College Dropout is better. I'd put it on a par with Graduation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

I'd give Graduation the nod over Late Registration because it doesn't have all those skits on it.

I love it! One of the best albums I've heard all year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 508 ✭✭✭itsjaybud

Have listened to 3/4 tracks from the album now but yet too hear the full album so i'm still undecided on it, i'm not sure if i want too listen to anymore of it! Might take a while to get into the kanyes new approach if even i do!

On the sales front its looking good for him, set to hit the 500k mark on its first week!

Look I like hip-hop... I even liked alot of Kanye's earlier stuff.

    But this album?

Seriously, a review isn't even needed for anyone except this - This album is BRUTAL.

Hate to be a hater, but wow, brutal!

This isn't hip hop and doesn't pretend to be. Don't see why people seem to be so confused about this. It's more like a pop/rnb album.

When I judge the thing on its own merits I'm afraid I don't understand what's going on. It's getting 5/5 reviews from lots of places which seems outright madness. To me it sounds like bad Prince. If Prince released this album, and at least then it'd be sung to a high standard, everybody would pan it. Most of the media seem obsessed with the fact he's doing something wierd with mainstream music, which I don't think has that much merit unless you do it well.

If you want unusual mainstream music then I think Lil Wayne is doing a much better job with Dedication 2 and Carter III (Dedication 3 I admit is downright horrible).
