XC Running shoes

Hi,

I expect that I will participate in my first XC event early next year and am looking for advice on foot wear. Xmas is coming and people want to know what I want

.

-What are the more popular makes?
-What size spikes are appropriate, at a guess its weather dependent?
-Are there brands that function on the track as well?
-Anything else to look out for when making my choice?

I ended up with a pair of Asics Hyper MD. I think they are spuposed to be middle distance track shoes actually, but as long as you don't get the sprinting spikes it aparently doesn't make a whole lot of difference. There are XC spcific shoes that would have a bit more tread on the sole I think though.

They came with 6mm spikes and I then went and got a set of 9mm ones as well, but that was mostly because Woddle passed through the shop at the same time and thats what he bought. Only I didn't know it was him at the time.

if you have a good distance track spike they can do you very well provided the course is not to bad.
I myself however have a pair of Puma Ngong s they a bit heavy but very good cross counry spike and provide good sturdy base which is perfect for very uneven surfaces which are to be found on some of the more extreme courses

As robinph said once you go outside of the sprinting spikes they get quite similiar. I got a pair of these Mizuno Kaze and find them fine underfoot with a good sole and grip. They can be used on a track as well they're not dissimiliar to racing flats in many way

I had to get them online not sure how good of a selection of spikes most shops would have

Thanks for the input lads. I like the look of those Mizuno's. I am obviously getting bored waiting for this injury to heal and looking around for things to buy

i found the brooks mach 9s very good, light but very sturdy.
dont look half bad either!:D
