Email worm, Outlook 2007

Tried to run Outlook 2007 there a moment ago, and while no windows opened checking in task manager the process was defo running. So I killed it and opened it again, gave me a Safe Mode option which I chose. I noticed it was sending 20+ emails which I stopped and tried to find in drafts/sent emails, to no avail.

I then realised I had about 10 delivery failure notifications to addresses I've never heard of, with the usual spam titles (viagra crap and so forth). This is the first time this behaviour has occured.

So I guess I must have a mail worm. I use Vista x64 and run (up to date) Avast for virus protection. In the middle of completing a scan but the on-access hasn't thrown up anything in the last while.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any idea which worm it might be so I can try and rid myself of it?

hmmm... alot of spam worms like this would have their own process, so they wouldnt be running through Outlook its self (unexpected for me to see them in outlook - but i dont know these type).
have you checked your registery to see what programs are in the run ?
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (and runonce)
    look at HKLM and HKCU
