i came across this and was just wondering if it might be of help to someone that maintains and fixes pc's , http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17774 their description of it is kinda vague , what would you think ???

why not use this to create a live usb stick with ubuntu on it. It does exactly the same thing. Just download the ISO and run unetbootin. As long as the hard drive ain't hammered you should be able to acess your info and either copy over a lan or to another usb stick.
