Experimental Judo Rules

Wa fighting yesterday under the experimental rules.

A little strange it has to be said, grip fighting is essentially gone and no grabbing of the legs apart from Kata Guruma.

Although it does encourage more upright fighting and with the lack of grip fighting makes the fights a bit quicker.

Anyone else fought under them yet or what do you think of them?

could be interesting - has to be better than watching two fighters dance around in grips

I suppose its all to make the fights go faster for the viewers - one of the reasons judo competitions are not allowed to stay on the ground for any period of time

my dad was involved in Judo back in the day and he has remarked on how internationals/olympics dont let the ground work go on half as much as they used to.
big different is alot more people are watching.

there are 3.2B watching the olympics today. how many people could have been watching it 30 or 40 years ago ?

Sorry, just saw this.

I've only fought one competition under them (and I've fought three different rule sets in the last three weeks, so it can get confusing)

Some of the changes are welcomed, more punishment for false attacks is always good. Too many players are dropping for sumi gaeshi and drop-seoi when they get a lead to avoid a penalty.

Jury is still out on the gripping rules, will cause a slight change in tactics alright.

Not to keen on the grabbing the pants rule at all, seems it'll destroy alot of transitions in throws.
