.htaccess files (the bar stewards)

This is driving me nuts, so any info really appreciated. Whats so annoying is that I've had it working before, but can't seem to replicate now )))-:

I have a wordpress instal in a folder mydomain.ie/wordpress2
want mydomain.ie to point to it

- basically want to jiggle with whatever needed in each of the directory and subdirectories .htaccess files, for this to happen - but it ain't

if anyone is familiar with this, would appreciate any pointers
