No I don't think it will ever be legalised, but I think it's a shame you can't grow your own for personal use, the way someone would make home brew wine or beer.

For my 2c worth, I consider dope smokers a damn sight less 'sad' than people who are addicted to shite like 'Friends' 'Eastenders' or 'sex in the city'

I would rather everyone was stoned when they pile out of clubs at 2 in the morning. Violence would drop sharply, sales in fast food places would increase dramatically.

Seriously, you are the one who sounds sad. You can't let people enjoy themselves. You may not like smoking, you may know people who have taken it too far, but that does not mean it is wrong, or that others shouldn't be allowed. I pity you, in fact. You are narrow minded, and yet you will probably think I am.

You a letting me regain some faith in the community :D

He just told you that he's running a successful business! Have you decided he is lying or are you just so biased you've ignored that fact? Why is it so hard to accept that someone might actually be both happy/successful and a cannabis smoker?

Some people can get away with being successful for a while, like some of the ones that I've known. It didn't take long for their worlds to fall apart however. They were also "Happy", albeit artificially so.

There's no convincing people like you because you're in a deep rut. I hope that one day you'll find the guts to climb out of it.

You are in the rut, a very narrow minded rut.

I on the other hand and many of my friends have left all that behind and moved on... We are better for it.

My father has been smoking for almost 30 years. He is one of the few people who still have work lined up for the next 2 years in his trade.

Where's your logic? Nill I believe

All of your arguments so far in this thread have been rediculous in my opinion. You have made me laugh you have made me angry, but worst of all you have disapointed me.

Cannabis will not make your world fall apart. Anyone with experience will tell you how silly your statement is.. Your friend failed at what they were doing because they didnt do it right. Perhaps the repercussion of that was to smoke / drink themselves to death... Some people cannot accept defeat and go back stronger... Some of us thrive off defeat as its the ONLY thing that will make us stronger. Please wake up.

Yes, there is a basic primal urge to experience altered states of conciousness, just like a hunger for food & sex. And just like food & sex some people have a higher drive to experience altered states. So it is easy for some to just say "if you don't want aids just don't have sex", and some can happily go through life being celibate. Just like a thin person can say "if you don't want to be obese, just stop eating". It is not as easy as that for many people. And if you have a low drive for something it can be hard to realise the other persons viewpoint.

The strange thing is most "anti-illegal drug" people use legal recreational drugs, and would go mental at the thought of having them made illegal. Just look at all the anger when the gov puts tax on smokes, or the smoking ban, or closing offies at 10pm. Many legal drug users do not see how easy they have it. I do not see the problem with more choice, that is a regular comment "you have booze don't you? isn't that good enough for you". It would be like saying "surely the missionary position is more than enough, why would you want to do anything else you pervert". There seems to be a odd belief that people will just compound all legal drugs, i.e. drink their usual 8 pints, AND a load of spliffs AND E etc. It would be like banning mcdonalds from bringing out a lowfat burger, saying "this will not help obesity, people will eat this in addition to their normal meal". If other drugs were legal alcohol consumption would drop.

Perhaps they just did not agree with whatever it was you tried to "convince" them of. Maybe they were perfectly happy. Maybe you would not be happy in their situation, and therefore cannot understand how they are.

The old line "cannabis robs you of your ambition, but not if you ambition is to get high and watch TV".

Many people equate ambition with making money, or having a good job. Many are happy with very little money, and can value a stress free lifestyle rather than trying to climb some corporate ladder involving long hours and stress.

Convincing them that you are "right" and they are "wrong". Some people might think your situation/lifestyle is a rut too, and feel sorry for you.
Do you seriously think an Irish government is going to make cannabis legal?
Not by themselves, it would have to be an almost worldwide occurrence, just like the majority of drugs are currently subject to. We usually copy all others on drugs laws. It would have to be a EU wide law, perhaps happening in the US first.

Absolute stoners and bums take cannibas, and the load of crap they come out with about it being less dangerous then alcohol complete load of Sh.t. You would seriously like a world where there was as much concumption of cannibas as there is alcohol? Freeks cannibas users are nothing but feeeks.

Erm, what? You just proclaimed yourself with that one. You are just slagging and generalising people who smoke weed. You are really sad.

You said in your post that I am a useless waster. How can you possibly say that and still expect to have any integrity left? Are you serious man? Take a step back and think for a few weeks / months / years i am not sure if any amount of time will help.

Is it ill informed to suggest to you that every junkie in the joy started out smoling cannibas, they will tell you it is a drug that leads to other drugs, that aside every person I know who smoke dope on a regular basis and that around 12 people now i CAN COUNT as knowing now and everyone i have know who smokes cannibas regularly have been effective very negtivally by it. from becoming more reclusive to wasting thier money, to not wanting to go out but being happy to stay at home all day getting stoned.

Its about a lifestyle chose. if your happy to think a life like that is a "life worth living", then good luck to you. I for one thinks there more tolive than staying in smoking dope in a moronic haze.

So I take it you would like to see alcohol illegal too? It must similarly be for complete losers.

Do you take any recreational drugs at all? e.g. alcohol, caffeine.

You seem completely blind to the fact that people can and do take drugs in moderate doses, the vast majority of alcohol users are not winos, just like the majority of cannabis users are not the equivalent- zonked out stoners.

Many are blind to the widespread usage since people can be discrete and not noticeably high. So people figure all users are like the one they can notice, but can totally accept a wino is not the norm.

If cannabis was legal consumption of alcohol would drop. I would prefer that situation. I would also like the government to be getting all the money they are missing out on, in the form of tax. And I would like to see taxpayers money not used to house many "criminals".

I smoke a lovely big joint before going down to have a business meeting. The meeting would "flow" and there would be laughter and immense brain storming throughout. Chilled atmosphere as everyone is as ease with my presense. In fact a joint or two has taken to edge of big meetings and has contributed to some of my highest paid projects.

No you stupid idiot. Nobody has to take cannabis. But you label ALL CANNABIS USERS as wasters who are not worth as human beings.

You are constantly missing the point and it just shows how small minded of a person you are. Its quite literally shocking, yet stimulating for me to view your so-called "mentality" spread (albeit (see i can use that word too) thinly) through this otherwise interesting thread

And there is direct statistical proof that the decline in alcolhol sales can be directly atributed to the increased consumption of cannibas? Make some sense man please.
