    Brilliant ending. brilliant.

    Yeah,
I've lately been experiencing annoying crashes exactly like this when streaming videos on the net or playing graphics-heavy games, and when it happened at the end of the review I thought "Ah b*llox, not again", and was reaching for the reset button before I copped it.
    Brilliant.

Lol, the bit after the credits is fantastic. :D

If you're planning on playing the game, I'd avoid the review cos it's pretty spoilerish.

    Another really funny one though.

    meh. bit boring that one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,666 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yep, its always boring when he actually likes the game. The funny stuff came from his venting about GTA4.

Tought it was great. And I really liked his supervillain idea. Must reinstall evil genius at some point...

I enjoyed it; sure he's not as funny when he actually likes a game, but as usual he strikes a chord with older gamers who remember a time when games were simple fun. "Blue Sky Gaming" as it were

    Really funny review I thought.

But, although I agree with pretty much all of his points, I'm surprised he didn't pick up on Saint's Row's execution of these concepts being pretty poor, in terms of controls, gameplay mechanics, graphics, bugs...

That and the fact he's kinda just following the fact that hating GTA is just the popular thing to do at the moment. I seem to remember him being quite fond of it when he reviewed it.

Not as good as the past few weeks have been.

He did seem overly keen on SR2, surprised that he was that kind to it really...
Seems like a 8/10 game so far, but he's still absolutely right about it being better than GTAIV thanks to actually being FUN.
I just wish they hadn't been so damn stingy with the gamerpoints:(

It's far from being in the moment, many people haven't liked it from day 1, myself included. It's a very tiresome game to paly around with, I think I only played as far as the mission where you smash up the laundry store before getting extremely bored and I haven't played it since.
So I agree with everything in that review !

Not sure about it being popular to hate; as great as GTAIV is, it is a wildly different animal to the out-and-out satire & písstake of previous games. I don't think I'm the only one who isn't exactly enthralled about GTA's more "realistic" hue now.

I've actually gotten back into playing GTA IV over the last few days, I find I'm resorting to cheats constantly because I just havent the patience to replay missions over and over again, it has it's moments but jesus theres some major flaws in there that make it a trial to play.

I enjoyed this week's review and I also enjoyed GTAIV. Won't be getting Saints Row 2 either.

Saints Row 2 wins because despite it's flaws it's actually fun and it's humour is purile and actually quite funny in how silly it is. GTA IV tried to be serious and failed miserably with some very poor writing and a bad story. And it had friends and girlfriends bugging you ever two minutes.

Dead Space this week. He didn't really like it, and its one of those reviews that I don't agree with. I really like Dead Space. Is it more anti-EA than anti-Dead Space?

    Scarybollocks Runarounds for Dummies.

Seems like he accentuated the negatives, rather than the positives. That and he's pent up about the (truthfully) bland storyline, which it was but then it can't all be like Psychonauts! Still not a bad review.

I'd agree with him, the dialogue in it is rubbish, and, after playing it for a bit, the only real scares are Doom 3 scares (i.e. where things just jump out at you)

I also couldn't care less about the protagonist. For a survival horror they have made the weapons way too powerful and the threat seem insignificant. I'm playing it on the hardest difficulty and trying to understand why so many people like it.

Have people played Condemned or F.E.A.R?

FEAR did a great job of building tension and paranoia by having large areas where nothing would attack you, rather lights would flicker, objects would fall over, birds would fly out in front of you... etc. This is what makes a survival horror, not the constant fighting of badguys, but the constant expectation of badguys.

Yeah you get the feeling that if it was from an independent it would critically acclaimed.

I am about half way through Dead Space and I find it compelling and a little freaky. In fact some of the things he criticises in the review e.g. the lighting, monsters jumping at you I like!

And I found FEAR bland and repititive. **smack** Take that Yahtzee!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,960 ✭✭✭DarkJager

I can't say I jumped once during F.E.A.R, found the whole experience to be quite boring actually. The levels were also just bland...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,920 ✭✭✭AnCapaillMor

Same with FEAR thought it totally underwhelming altho it looked nice.

the expansions, maybe. But Alma, the child form and the adult, has to be one of the best horror game characters ever. You will not be able to watch this video without your skin crawling. I can't say Dead Space has made me feel like that once
