    Hi everyone

I was hoping if someone could tell me what the the different weight classes are in the muay thai because i thinking of taking it up next year when my exams are over and i am finito with college. I am doing some kenpo karate at the moment but would like something where I could fight and spar on a continuous basis and improve my kicking and flexibility which isnt the mae westand get a bit fitter. Im asking about the weight classes because im a small enough(5"5) and wondered would I be fighting people with a much bigger reach advantage

    Welcome to boards.ie. :)

Weight classes for amateur fights are generally done to the nearest kilo. You'll only be fighting people much bigger than you if you're either:

    a) muscular
    or
    b) fat

    :)

There's a list of official weight ranges here but they're generally only observed for title fights.

Glad to help. It's worth pointing out that you'll almost definitely lose some bodyfat (unless you're already very very lean) from the training before you get anywhere near the ring. :)

    See you down there.
