Its Election Day. Put all your not-so-political US Election banter here, as we experience Democralypse Now (and as I predict lots of people will spam AH today with election related crap, so I got here first
Hurry up and inflate yourselves out of an economic collapse so the dollar becomes irrelevant to the rest of the world and we no longer pay any attention to the ridiculous merry go round that is the US election.

Yeah, because it has no effect on the rest of the world at all.

The ad below me says that bush's iq is 125, i read in the paper it was 110.

I think the ad for the i.q testing site is lying!

btw, yes 110 is above average but the results weren't released untill he had already been president for a long while. Plently of time to practice i.q tests if you ask me.

An election in a communist country where there's a popular pro-democracy candidate would be way more important than anything in america. While these cases do get mentioned in the news, we don't make a huge deal over it and talk about it incessantly like we are doing about this election.

Well, this election could have a real and direct effect on Ireland, given Obama's promise to punish US companies that operate outside of the states for tax purposes - so no matter what low corporation tax rates we offer, there is a chance that it could no longer be feasible for a lot of US companies to stay here in a few years time. That alone interests me enough to talk about it.

Of course, if people don't want to talk about it, they could always not click on the threads about it.

Could the companies not just register with a different country then?
Outsourcing is good. People from other countries want their share of the money. Either outsource or face loads of immigration. I know which option AH posters would prefer .

Yeah, maybe they can. My point is that this election does - or might - affect us quite a bit, so it deserves to be talked about.

but you have to agree that other elections of simmilar importance wouldn't get as talked about, that american culture on our tv screens has something to do with it.

Yes, we should probably talk about them more, but not talking about this one because of that doesn't make sense (0ubliette's post, not yours). And I think this election could potentially have a bigger direct impact on Ireland's economy than other elections happening around the world.

the election is affecting world markets so of course it's important, once the winner is confirmed, no matter who it is, we should see the stock markets strenghten in the us at first and then this will propagate globally. might only be a small increase but the markets knowing who the president will be for the next 4 years should help reinstate some stability in the markets.

I think John Stewart used the line but I find the imagery very funny.
Imagine Obama ending his victory speech tonight with "Now... where are them white women at!"

I can also imagine him at a victory party ala Dave chappelle/ Rick James - True hollywood stories "I'm Barak Obama... now show me them titties"

Even if that were possible, it would be suicide effectively for any company who tried it. It would destroy their public image.

No, they can't. If they sell products in the US, they need to have a registered legal presence in the US. If the taxman in the US decides they are outsourcing, he could just slap a 20% extra levy on everything they sell. They won't go that far but they might well target various sectors as a warning shot across the bows. If medical or IT happen to be one of them, ruin will follow in short order for this country.

Utter tripe. Immigration can be easily controlled throughout the EU and especially in Ireland. Outsourcing is good to the extent that we benefit from it, but by no means is it always of economic benefit.

Countries like Germany and Japan for example are both first world countries that do much of their manufacturing at home, and have extraordinary economies as a result. Thats not to say its always bad either.

    And on a lighter note,

They have the power to any country thy want and capture it. Heck, CIA rumours say that those Americans are planning on invading some place called "Alaska". And then they were going to invade somewhere called "Ha why ee" and use it to launch nukes at those commies in north korea and the russia.

    Cos they're so ronery
