I get nasty looks from strangers all the time...and I don't even have an iPhone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

I presume it's either mostly in your head (I doubt many people would care) or you get the very odd look of curiosity/perhaps envy. I actually would probably crane my head over subtly to get a look at someone's i-phone - purely because I haven't seen many of them and they're cool-looking gadgets.

Can't believe you started a thread on it though - you wouldn't if it didn't bother you. Not really something to get bothered about...

surely the entire point of owning an Apple product is to show people how superior you are to them? and you spent too much money on something that has cheaper better equivalent?

Meh, ive had mine since the first one launched back in June '07.
(Had to wait a while for the unlock.) I have never had people look at me funny. If it's not to my ear it's in my pocket.

If i'm using the web its discreetly in my had not being waved around like an ass.

Cheaper better equivalent? I was able to ditch a much more expensive desktop setup when I bought my Macbook Pro, and didn't have the hassle of dual booting Linux/Windows.

And yes I've an iPhone and I'm damn proud of it.

    Pretty much.

Where exactly in that post are you debunking his "cheaper better equivalent" statement?

So you go a Macbook Pro to replace an expensive Desktop, but you could have gotten even cheaper replacement, not only cheaper but probably more powerful, at the very least on par.

And there is a wide range of cheaper alternatives to the iPhone, alternatives with a much wider array of features and capabilities. Take a look at the Chinese market and you'll feel slick in your little tummy for wasting your money on a fashion accessory.

Don't have the hassle of dual booting Linux and Windows? Are you implying OSX is better than both, or some kind of medium between the two?

Apple operating systems have always, and will always be steaming piles of ****.

I managed to make my iphone the centre of attention in the pub last night. (If you were in Kenmare you probably saw it at somepoint) There were about 20 of us and we starting gambling on a game called "stop it". The game is simple, a timer starts on the iphone and when it hits 1 second the screen goes dark. The objective is to stop the counter on exactly 5:00 by just counting in your mind. Everytime you don't do it, you throw 50 cent in the pot. The winner won 25 quid!

    Something about sandwiches

you and your mates are obviously overly sensitive about having an iPhone. you probably got the same looks before but didnt pay any attention to it.

Or else people are looking at ya thinking "what a cabbage. why would ya bother spending that much on a phone!"

Or else its simply "Hmm, theres one of those iPhones, I wonder what the.....hm why is he looking at me funny? I think I'll look back at him even funnier!"

    wow, that really showed me.

He was going to ring all of his friends on his iPhone to boast but there was no one around to look at him while he did it.

I work in an o2 dealer shop that also sells Mac & PC (we don't sell the iphone).

I hate the way people buy Macs just to show their friends that they're better. It's like buying an SUV, parking it outside your house, and then having a little Nissan Micra beside it that you drive because it's more economical.

Yes, they look nice. Yes, people prefer Macs/Apple. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. And yah, Apple is nicer for twice the price, and twice the features. It's all in proportion when you consider it.

The iPhone is a craze that Apple managed to be the forefront of. Big whopper of a deal? The iPhone doesn't even have bluetooth FFS, and for the same price as the UK, your getting one third of what you should be getting, and an overpriced handset.

Your getting funny looks because you're provoking them, and people either can't afford what you have, or are more than likely laughing at you.

    Enjoy.

Well, since August I've been dumped, my house burned down, then my car burned down, then my dog burned down, I lost my job (also the office burned down). Coincidentally, I also got an iPhone in August. It all makes sense now!

I had the iPhone and now have the iPhone 3G, and both have bluetooth.

I wouldn't call it a craze. It's an incredibly well marketed consumer product, that's neither better or worse then any other phone out there in the same price bracket (expensive nokias, blackberrys).

Has anyone else wondered why I have a fake Bluetooth icon on my iPod touch?

Because i want to make it look like an iPhone.

Oh ya. And I also have an o2 and 3g icon on it.

The iphone is selling simply because it's made by apple... originally apple users were actually tech heads and knew what they were doing...

Nowadays you have the average paddy latching on to the apple image and paying for something on the basis of it's looks or 'socially cool' rating.

Works for apple as they're creaming it in, but it'll cost them in the long run as their cool minority image is slowly turning in to an uncool, normal image due to the fact so many people can afford and are buying apple products.

I wasn't aware that there were O2 stores that didn't sell the iPhone.

As everyone has pointed out it does have bluetooth, though it doesn't have ObEx or any of that stuff so it's limited to device connectivity like bluetooth headsets or bluetooth earphones etc.

I bought mine from ebay. €335 euro, ordered it on a friday night, it was delivered at half 8 on the following tuesday unlocked, cracked and with loads of free software. I don't have a contract, nor do I pay the scandalous line rental. All in all I'm happy I got it.

Anyway would a mod lock the thread please.

Had a iphone for two weeks or so, hated using it in public some people do notice it and its annoying - how could they not the size of the thing.

using iphone at home nearly took over my free time constant wi-fi access in your pocket is just too much I was online way more than I would usually spend and its 'discreet' enough to use in the company of others (imo moreso than a laptop) which is a bit anti-social I suppose. Really disliked/disappointed by the iphone and I'm a fan (ipod/powerbook owner) Make a smaller one apple.......
