My theory is that Shell were losing lots of cash due to the bad press caused by the Shell to Sea campaign. Now we have these Topaz kips instead of Shell. Whopdidoo, I dont even drive, I just occasionaly use the shop. 3 euro for half a pound of butter in topaz, fuck off.

Down in the land of the Deise they are the second most expensive (With Maxol being the main station being expensive)

In cork it varies really. Maxol and grandons are the most expensive but topaz are fairly cheap especially in midleton. Its 114.9 where in other stations its 116.9 to 119.9

They actually took over all the Shells & Statoils a couple of years ago - it's only now they are putting up the signs. Its funny, when that Shell to sea crowd were protesting outside Shell & Statoil most of them were actually owned by Topaz who have nothing to do with all that mess:D

Where's Run_to_da_hills? He must've known that Topaz was going to take over the galaxy. He must be working for them, feeding us red herrings while they've been putting their master-plan into place.

Topaz ARE Shell, just under a different name and a nice swirly colurful logo

C'mon, you are in a country, you start to drill through peoples land - protests ensue - your PR image is shot to bits. What do you do? - change name and get a nice happy logo - sure no one is any the wiser.

What? You didnt think Shell just upped sticks and left overnight did you?

Topaz are actually a Irish company who bought over statoil and shell. I used to work for statoil fuel cards.

I hate the ads, how is their fuel any cleaner than others or am I just stupid, or imagining things, hmm **** off

from the middle of September it will include a special additive in all its petrol and diesel which will give drivers more miles to the gallon and lower CO2 emissions.

The new fuel will be branded Clean Petrol and Clean Diesel and will not cost any more.
The new product is suited to all car and engine types and has been approved by the AA. Field trials have shown that the new fuel increases engine efficiency by up to 3pc, or about 400 miles a year for an average Irish motorist.

Take it from me Topaz = Shell have heard from reliable source and reason Topaz was rolled out across country in couple weeks was because Shell stations were losing money so Shell decided to rebrand and buy out as many stations Statoil,Maxol ,etc so as to dominate market again very clever campaign all done in secrecy and looks like it has fooled the country when everyone was watching other items in media aka US elections ,credit crunch ,and our own wallets .Information is Power and the truth is always the truth Shell like to have monopoly like all large companies so they can dictate price of diesel and petrol .I could go into stats on how much petrol and diesel is consumed in Ireland every year and suffice to say its a lot so fair play to poor ol big bro Shell theyre just protecting their investment in Ireland and duped most of us badda bing another notch in bedpost for big corpo my hat goes off Happy Christmas to Topaz / Shell we all love you !!!!!!!!!

    Whats topaz? Is he Mexican?

    Topaz petrol stations ?
Topaz by the way is also very clever marketing tool as its easily pronounced in
different countries and by multilingual societies like Ireland now hence their choice of name as Topaz i doubt it means anything in context to owners aka Shell its just very nice cosy name everyone can pronounce .

Back when I was looking for a job a recruiter was trying to sell me on a position with Topaz.

They own the franchise rights to Statoil in Ireland from what I was told and I'd assume either they arranged a franchise deal with Shell or are some form of corporate entity controlled by Shell for business purposes (ie don't look evil to the eco warriors).

Didn't take the job with them, not because of any moral issues but because they didn't want to pay enough... I mean they're a petrol company! They've loads a money :D

well done ya made good choice fair play lets keep Topaz alive i'm more interested in hearing any other views on Topaz than what I see in lots of other threads stating who has cheapest petrol ,Topaz and all the other petrol stations will only bring price down if they feel pressure of us on the net investigating how they do business and how they treat their staff so they deserve to analysed and probe we pay their big execs the big multi million dollar bonuses and their nice golfing holidays into plush regions of world for numerous breaks every year .The time for change is here and we as consumers need to let these big corpos know whos the real boss !

I took part in some market research for them about 18/24 months ago. This has been coming for quite a while.

I like the idea of using the name of a semi-precious stone for the sale of black gold. It's a little clever.

ah the penny drops thats why its called Topaz thanks for that and rapid reply to my post thanking you for that

It's a retailer, it has no fuel source of its own.

And who are all these people who boycotted Shell becasue of Rossport, sure 90% of the residents didn't have an issue with the pipeline.

I certainly don't know anyone that would have gone out of their way to avoid Shell stations, people generally buy were cheapest, often Shell around here in the past.
